My brother-in-law put his iPhone in a dock, and we listened to streaming radio. It was much clearer than through the radio.

Does music streamed through the computer, or iPod/iPhone/cellphones, produce the best sound quality? Is it better than vinyl?

I could be wrong, as I haven't done much research, but I'm pretty sure it's pretty low grade mp3 quality that gets streamed. 320kbps is pretty reasonable, but far from high quality.

    Straight from the website.

What quality does Spotify stream in?
    Desktop

Streaming is normally at 160 kbps. Premium subscribers can enable higher bit rate streaming at 320 kbps from the Preferences menu.
    Mobile

Normal quality is 96 kbps. High quality is 160 kbps. Extreme quality is 320 kbps.
    Which setting to choose

In the Spotify mobile apps you can choose the quality for Stream and Sync / Download individually in the Settings.
When streaming, you are likely to be using a mobile data connection. Low data use and reliability will be most important. In this case, Normal would be the best setting. On the other hand, when syncing (downloading) playlists for offline listening, you’re likely to have access to the wider bandwidth of a wi-fi network. In this case, you might want to use High quality.

The benefits of Extreme quality may only be noticeable if you are docking your mobile device into a high quality system that has good quality digital to audio conversion, amplifier and speakers.
