My 10 yr old son asked a girl out yesterday

Apparently he's had a secret admirer that he also liked and yesterday he asked her out. He also changed his status on Instagram from "single" to "Jackie" surrounded by heart emoji's. What the F is going on? When I was 10 the only important things in my life were Star Wars action figures and baseball cards.
Alright, alright, alright!

    that's pretty normal for a 5th grader.

not so sure about having an instagram account though.
did you see me? i saw you.
  • I had a "girlfriend" when I was in 5th grade....was pretty silly but I remember thinking I was pretty cool. ;)
    Harmless.
(I still liked my action figures and baseball cards though!)

I got into girls pretty early.

While the rest of the boys were throwing rocks at them, I was trying to make out with them (and possibly more). And I didn't get one pregnant (or at least that I know of) until I was 35, so I think your boy might do OK for himself.

Just, you know, when you start finding all those nut-filled socks stashed around his room and stained sheets and that whole mess (which is hopefully still a couple of years away), have the talk with him. It's obvious he's already curious.

P.S. -- And the girls are actually hitting puberty a lot earlier than they did when I was a kid, which could get your boy even more enticed. There are many theories about why this is happening, but studies show that it is happening. Scary. I have one of each!

The instagram thing seems to be more popular than facebook in his circle of friends. I'm not on either but my wife is keeping tabs on him.

I would say as long as it remains harmless, especially if mom is watching, let the little playa get his game on.

My 6th grade daughter has many of friends with boyfriends...but...i have to admit...
...i've done a pretty good job raising her..because...

She gets asked out every few months and has her favorite response, is...

"When you have a vehicle and we can do dinner and a movie,...then we can go out"...

She came up with it all on her own,.. and i told her after i first heard it..."perfect and well said"...

not to knock anyone else's opinion but i wasted,...let me repeat,...wasted my 5th thru 10th grade years
spending countless hours on the phones with girlfriends back then...
sure it was fun and ya, got to see a bra or boobie on a few occasions...

    now that i've lived it...

there's plenty time to date after you've turned 16...
any earlier and its just in the way of your studies/friends/music etc etc..

    imo.......Peace...

It's an innocent "girlfriend". Now if they start banging...thats a different story.

So far, so good. My wife is keeping tabs on his email and texting. Although his instagram account wasn't deleted because he was too young. He must've posted his birth date somewhere on his account and they just zapped it.
