Hi guys!
Purple Day is coming again and I am once again asking you guys for your kind support.
After a little break last year, I am really excited to start raising money again for The Epilepsy Centre.

Between my supporter page and an auction that i held at the Largs Pier Hotel in 2011, we managed to raise $700.00!!!! Many, many thanks to all those that contributed, you guys are amazing! I thank you from the bottom of my heart.
I also thank those who have helped me through some tough times with my own struggle with epilepsy. The stories you shared and supportive advice are priceless. Thank you.

As some of you may know, I myself have epilepsy and trust me when I say.........IT SUCKS! It's often a disorder that people are scared to open up about because, let's face it, it's often frightening for other people to see. Some have small (petit mal) seizures where they can't talk, others have (grand mal) seizures where they shake on the floor and some people even hallucinate. Very frightening stuff, especially if your a child or a parent of one.
All monies raised go towards education, counselling, information services, children’s and family support programs, specialised training programs, support groups and advocacy.

Your a sweetheart! thank you so much! i have always felt more sorry for my friends and family having to see it, rather than feel sorry for me. Quite frankly, I don't remember alot but they certainly do.

Epilepsy Action Australia who are partnered with the EveryDay Hero fundraising also are great too! They run camps for the little ones with epilepsy, their Mums and Dads so they can enjoy themselves without feeling different from their peers.
It's really lovely because the parents can talk to each other about their children and really relate to what each other are going through. Fantastic idea!

They also run memory workshops, many people with epilepsy suffer from memory loss, myself included. Drives you nuts! :roll: The medication long term can also impact memory also.
They run exercises to improve memory and it allows people to get together to discuss their own proven personal strategies.

* Epilepsy affects over 3 million Americans of all ages – more than Multiple Sclerosis, Cerebral Palsy, Muscular Dystrophy, and Parkinson’s Disease combined.

* In America, Epilepsy is as common as Breast Cancer, and takes as many lives.

*Almost 500 new cases of Epilepsy are diagnosed every day in the United States.

* Epilepsy affects 50,000,000 people worldwide.

* For many soldiers suffering traumatic brain injury on the battlefield, Epilepsy will be a long-term consequence.

* In two-thirds of patients diagnosed with Epilepsy, the cause is unknown.

* In over 30% of patients, seizures cannot be controlled with treatment.

* Historically, epilepsy research has been under-funded.  Each year NIH spends $30 billion of medical research, but just ½ of 1% is spent on epilepsy.
