"Somewhere" is a part of the upcoming album of Hendrix music, "People, Hell, and Angels." Hendrix's former sound manager, Eddie Kramer, put together the album of unheard music that was originally planned to follow-up Hendrix's 1968 album, "Electric Ladyland.

Isn't that what "First Rays Of The New Rising Sun" was? Of all the songs on the tracklisting for this new release, not a single one of them was on Jimi's actual tracklisting for "People, Hell and Angels". I'm sure it will be a good album, Jimi could do no wrong with me. I just think it's silly they're selling this (again) as Jimi's follow-up to "Electric Ladyland". First Rays appears to have a much more legitimate claim to that title, just based on Jimi's notes and the tracklisting.

Edit: Wait a minute, I have this song on 2 CDs already. It's on the box set as well as Crash Landing.

Not sure how this one will turn out, but the last similar release, Valleys of Neptune was full of half-baked ideas. First Rays... felt like more fully realized ideas and there are some choice Hendrix cuts there. Valleys was kinda forgettable.

I never checked out "Valleys Of Neptune", and from the sound of it I'm not really going to rush it. I thought "First Rays" was pretty good though. This might be pretty good, but it kind of comes across as a cash grab by Janie. By the way, Eddie Kramer has been saying for a long time they have enough Hendrix material to release a new album every year for the next 12 to 15 years, so I'm sure we'll be seeing a lot more. I wonder how much of it is any good though, because some of the stuff they've released already was kind of "bottom of the barrel" stuff. Maybe they're saving the really good stuff, who knows.

  • I so wish Kurt Cobain had recorded as much material as Jimi. Although Courtney would bastardize it somehow.

There are some fans who hate Janie Hendrix as much as Nirvana fans hate Courtney, and feel she has bastardized his legacy. I don't know that much about it, or her, just know about the lawsuits and the like. It's one of those things that nobody really knows what is going on except her and the rest of the family, but there are a lot of allegations. Considering some of the stuff they've put out though, I can't imagine that these 12-15 years worth of material is all high quality, unless they've just been stringing us along and don't want to blow their whole wad on one release. Some of the stuff they've released, and probably plan on releasing, was not finished work. Some of it is skeletal at best.
