I'm a pretty upbeat, happy person most of the time but I seem to own most of these...

My thoughts exactly. Their self titled album belongs on this list too.

I like Kanye and 808s but that album does not deserve to be anywhere near the top of this list

There's a lot more besides which weren't included. I don't think this list was very well researched at all. Still some nice choices though!

I'm not familiar with a lot of the ones in the top 15 but I think anything ahead of "The Downward Spiral" would have to put up a good argument to convince me it's darker than that album.

This doesn't surprise me. NME just worships brittish acts (it's a brittish publication, after all) but it seems to do it at the expense of many North American bands. Off the top of my head here are some glaring omissions:

    The Doors debut album
    Bubblegum by Mark Lanegan
    Songs for the Deaf QotSA
    Vitalogy by PJ
    Superunknown by Soundgarden
    Dirt by Alice in Chains
White Light/White Heat by the Velvet Underground
Easter Everywhere by the Thirteenth Floor Elevators
    Anything by the Black Angels
    Anything by Tool

Is Jim Morrison American Prayer on the list? Love that album. Dark as hell I think.

No Dirt eliminates this list as being in any way valid- Seriously... "I want you to scrape me off the wall and feel dirty like I do?"

No Mad Season Above, eliminates is in any Way

No Stabbing Westward Darkest Days eliminates it from validity

    No NIN Broken

no Faith No More Real Thing...

No Metallica And justice For All

No Mazzy Star, no Pink Floyd....NO RHCP Blood sugar...no Charlie Brown Christmas?

    Jerry Cantrell- Degradation Trip

    Soundgarden Down The Upside

Explosions in the sky the earth is a dead cold place

    No Master Of Puppets

    No Ministry Psalm 69

    Filter Short bus

    Temple Of The Dog

    this list is complete shit

This was sorta gonna be my vote too, but I'd really only say Undertow and Aenima. Lateralus is clearly far from shiny/happy, but there's alot of positivity there. 10k Days more of a return to their darker view of the world, but I don't think it carried as much weight as their first 2 full lengths.

NME is hit or miss... I follow them o Twitter just to get a different perspective and to check out some new bands, but obviously they favor the Brits which is fine bc that's what they are.

I think VAST's first album Audio Video Sensory Theatre is particularly dark, especially 'Flames '. Well pretty much all of Jon Crosby's music is quite dark.
Also Bone Machine- Tom Waits. It sounds like it comes straight from hell! love it! 'Alice' is quite dark too.
    Right up my alley! ;)
