at this point black keys would be a better comparison with KOL.. both sold out and are boring in 2013... man use to love the black keys.. I still hold some hope the give the bassist and keyboardist a rest and go back to 10:am automatic type stuff... lonely boy etc. is shit. They have become so boring and obvious.
It's a shame what happened to KOL and the Black Keys...they are obviously just pursuing $, instead of thinking about quality music and longevity.
I didn't follow the Keys from album to album, but I thought KoL was evolving pretty steadily til that last album. It wasn't completely awful but it was a pretty blatant dive toward the mainstream success they got from the previous album. I think alot of their drastic change in sound from the first 2 albums can be attributed to having alot of help from the creepy dude that would go on auditions with them.
Pearl Jam wins they have 6 members (including Boom) while the black keys are just a duo. :P

obviously some people lost my point... i do not think the black keys are a better band than pearl jam... anyone that knows me, knows that is crazy talk... my point was to take a rock band that has been making good music the last decade and is currently relevant, and compare their output with our boys...
here is the thinking behind my point... ALL of the members are in their 40's... they are still able to make great rock music and are still able to rock out at live shows with the best of them... i do believe that window closes more and more every year, for various reasons... but lets fast forward only 15 years, do you want to see a 60 year old eddie vedder growling out a version of "Blood"? how about a band full of guys in their 60's writing a song like "life wasted" or growiling out "leash"? this is the EXACT reason Robert Plant refuses to do a LZ reunion tour, he says ther band, and himself, are too damn old to be up there rocking out loud and heavy songs they wrote in their 20's... thats why he is doing his solo thing with a more adult tuned down sound... well, i am not ready for that out of what i consider the best band in the world... so every year of no new music and limited shows feels like another year lost from my favorite band, the band that has provided the soundtrack to my life... i am sick are tired of the only PJ i hear on the radio is songs from the 90's and occasionaly "Just Breathe"... is it greedy on my part to want more from my band while they still can? yes... is it a bad greed? no...
so my point is the clock is ticking... day by day and year by year... the band is still capable of great things and making great music... so lets stop fucking around... i need them.... we need them... rock music desperately fucking needs them

I don't see why an Eddie at 60 shouldn't be doing Blood or Life Wasted or Leash ... EV isn't Robert Plant. But whatever, that is Ed's call, obviously. If he can and wants to be doing the same thing he is now in 12 years, then awesome. If for some reason he can't do it any more in 12 years, then that's okay. Not sure what that has to do with them putting out new music anyway. But there are a lot of rock stars way older than Eddie who are still rockin it, so I see no reason to assume that PJ couldn't do the same if they want to, especially since they are all in very good shape. They will certainly be able to continue putting out new rock, even if Eddie isn't able to perform Blood anymore. Their music has changed over the years, and I expect that it will continue to do so. Whether or not EV can still sing Leash when he's 60 is neither here nor there.
I'm personally still a HUGE Led Zeppelin fan, and don't care that they are not playing anymore - they did enough to last me a lifetime. Same with Fugazi. So either way.
One thing I know for sure: I do not want PJ putting out music when they're not ready to, and really really want to. I don't want their music if they are just trying to get it out for impatient fans. I only want it if their hearts are in it.
I can't say I really understand your thinking generally, or why you've used the Black Keys as a comparison.

it's simple really... i love pearl jam... and i want more pearl jam... i have grwon up with this band... and now this past decade it seems like they dont even make music anymore
and the black keys are currently the hottest rock band the last few years, so it seemed like a good band to use as a comparison as far as making music... no other reason really

Hmm. Well, I really feel like PJ has made a lot of music in the past 10 years for a band that's been around for over 2 decades, not to mention all the side-projects, and that The Black Keys are only average at best (which I guess is why the comparison is what strikes me as strange, even beyond the fact that I don't agree with the thinking behind any comparison at all).

I personally don't 100% believe Plant's motives behind not wanting to do Zeppelin. I'm sure he has some legit reasons, but if the Page/Plant years showed me anything it's that egos can be the downfall of great partnerships. Plant wants to call the shots and be the main draw. Fact is though, as great as was he may have been the weak link when it came to Zeppelin's creativity. I think strong musical personalities like Page and Jones keep him from wanting to dive into that when he can do something else and do exactly what he wants. I can't fault him for not wanting to rock or relaunch Zeppelin but there are other motives behind it.
I think that PJ has suffered from some of the same sort of ego driven stuff in different ways. I think them getting along so well has been great for their longevity but less than kind when it comes to the creative flow. Not saying they need to be at each others throats, but I'd be willing to be that they haven't had a real disagreement in the studio for a few albums.
