Comfortably Numb

Roger Water was driving me nuts.
The songs were too long and strange.
Then comfortably numb began.
The frustration I had over the weird selection of Floyd music quickly disappeared when I heard Eddie's voice.
It literally sent chills up my spine.
The hair on the back of my neck stood up.
My eyes welled with tears.

I don't know how to explain it, cannot put my finger on it.
It was a moment of awe and pride because I felt like yelling, "Hey, that's MY guy! Hey, people like him! Isn't he amazing!"

Kinda weird. I was happy and proud.
Wish he sang more, but that little moment was powerful.

Happy New Year....

You captured this performance and moment perfectly. While I enjoyed the entire RW performance, your description of Eddie's performance is precisely the emotion I felt (and feel every time I listen to it over and again). One for the ages . All the best to fellow fans of this great band in 2013.

  • Thank you. Felt exactly this way watching Eddie's performance. It was an incredibly powerful feeling because you just knew: Eddie can stand with any legend and add beauty to any piece he connects with. That voice, the passion, a profound expression that reverberates; it is astounding. And there is no denying it - he is a legend.

    Happy new year.

I was also moved by the love and respect Eddie received from a legend like RW.

    Great topic:)
As a great Pink Floyd fan I must say I was overwhelmed to see Roger perform with Eddie. I never had the thought that they would perform together. I was shocked because it's my two favourite bands. I really loved it. Roger has something deep mystical about him, as if he brings one into a special room - and Eddie is the one who makes us fly. I get chills every time I listen to it. I only wished that David Gilmour had done the solos on this - but still amazing.

No doubt, to hear his voice on this song was hair raising...

    Heard this today.
Same reaction as first time I saw/heard it.
It sends chills down my back when he starts singing.
Not sure why, but it hits me in a unique way.

Wow I just ran across this topic and I felt the EXACT same way when Ed started singing. I loved the look/nod the guitarist behind ed had when he finished singing his first line.
Chills, watery eyes it was totally this surreal feeling for me hearing him sing.
But then again I would buy a single of Ed singing the ABC's

thank you so much for bringing this post back to the top again and with this, reminding me of this. I just went and watched it again and I'm bawling my eyes out LOL Pink Floyd usually does that to me with their music and with Eddies voice it's almost too much to stand it ...... I felt completely the same when PJ played Mother in Berlin in 2012 on their second night, as soon as I realised it was Mother what we were about to witness then (and it happened fast!) I almost had an emotional breakdown. well, not just almost LOL With Pink Floyd and Pearl Jam being my two most favorite bands it is an easy thing to do :D

I love the interview with Roger after the show. He summed it up perfectly when he said, "Eddie was extraordinary, wasn't he great? I knew he was going to sing the sh*t out of it."

The Pulse version IMO has the best solo of any other version. I wish we could have Mike do that solo sometime...

It's wild how a connection with a brief moment, lyric, sound, tone, note, emphasis can spark that little feeling deep down. It makes your eyes water, your neck hair stand on end or gives you goosebumps. Sometimes, it might lead to full tears or a breakdown. You may have heard Long Road 139 times and 29 versions - but that one version on one night in one year - that version features something that grabs you...Eddie holds that last "YEAAHHH" just a little longer than usual, or his scream is somehow filled with more emotion. It just gets you and that connect can be powerful. That which you feel is overwhelmingly powerful, might be routine to everyone else. That's what makes this band amazing.
