Mine was Calgary, September 2005, opended with oceans, Then I decided I would follow the buses up the highway to Edmonton, release opened, then I followed to Saskatoon, release again, ended up in Winnipeg, sleeping in my car trying to figure out how to get back in time for work. I said fuck work and ended up in Thunder Bay.
First PJ shows and seen them 5 times in a week, was pretty cool, had to make up for lost time.

09/29/96 – Downing Stadium (Randall’s Island): New York, NY [168m]
    attendance: 30,000
support act: Ben Harper, The Fastbacks
set: Sometimes, Go, Spin the Black Circle, Hail Hail, Animal, Tremor Christ, Who You Are, Corduroy, Lukin, Better Man, Not for You, Jeremy (new), Once, Rats, Last Exit, Habit, Rearviewmirror, Immortality, Whipping, I Got Shit, Black, Alive, Porch
enc 1: In My Tree, Even Flow, Daughter/(The Real Me)/(ABitW)/(WMA), Mankind, Long Road, Leaving Here
enc 2: Off He Goes, Present Tense, Yellow Ledbetter
notes: A nearly three-hour show with a raging pit. The band stops playing several times in an effort to get the crowd to settle down. During ‘Porch,’ Ed duct-tapes his *entire* body and jumps into the pit. (Thought we’d never see that again!) Just before the first encore, someone throws an “Eddie Vedder for President” t-shirt up on stage. Ed looks at it and says, “Well I’ll tell you the truth … I smoke pot! I didn’t exhale though!” Stone asks for a chant of “Stone, Stone, Stone!” before singing ‘Mankind.’ During the encore, Mike starts playing ‘Yellow Ledbetter’ after ‘Leaving Here,’ Ed stops him and they go into ‘Off He Goes’ followed by ‘Present Tense!’ Incredible setlist.

My first show was 9-11-98! it became my hotmail email since shortly after;)

I remember checking the mailbox everyday until I had the tickets in my hand.

Going to school to use teh interwebs to see if MSG had a seating chart and scaring the computer lab when I screamed with joy and amazement that I had 8th row seats thanks to the 10club!

The day of the show might as well have not even happened. I was so excited the entire day that there was no way I was able to focus on anything but the specific train I planned to catch with my buddy to head to NYC.

Though it was my first PJ show, I could tell that I was witnessing something special.

I still get shivers down my spine thinking about that day=p

Its definitely in my top 3 shows I've ever seen. The others being APC opening for NIN @MSG and Marilyn Manson coming out during Starf**kers~ and seeing Tool on the Lateralus tour

East Lansing '98. Looking back it was kind of an ehhh show, with a short setlist and Soldier of Love closer but I didn't know any better and it hooked me for life. It was going to be my only show that year (I was in high school and why would anybody want to see the same band multiple times the same tour ;) ). I ended up begging my Uncle (he had the hookup at work) for tickets to the following week's show at the Palace of Auburn Hills (Detroit) and was hooked ever since then.

Swallow My Pride/Ain't Nothing to Do

Went for free w/ a buddy from UNLV who's friend backed out...really liked TEN, but it was a tad played out for me...stayed in line @ midnight to buy Vs. at the Warehouse in Vegas a month earlier. Wasn't a fan club member, yet. Vs. became my fave (still is) so I was psyched to go...
Big fan of MLB, Green River scene - liked the Dead Boys...shocked to see those tunes and some Lennon tossed in there...a week later was Lennon's death anniversary (13 yrs)
This show stayed with me and made me a raging fan. The $60 bootleg at the time was worth every penny and started my infatuation with these guys. Still up there with one of the best shows - period - I have ever experienced.

Vitalogy wouldn't come out for almost a year - and when it did I couldn't understand why Whipping and Tremor Christ sounded like I knew them already

Tried to get a ticket & sneak in the next night. Was extremely pissed to hear they played a Who cover (Real Me) and a Neil Young cover (RITFW)...

    -

My first concert of ANY type was Pink Floyd - Giants Stadium - June 1988 - the Momentary Lapse of Reason tour. Pretty great show.

    Ah to be young again:

04/04/92 – Concert Hall: Toronto, Ontario
set: Oceans, Even Flow, Why Go, Jeremy, Deep, Alive, Black, State of Love and Trust, Once, Porch, Breath, Happy Birthday, Leash
notes: During ‘Porch,’ Ed climbs up onto the balcony and starts working his way all the way around the venue on the edge of the balcony. About 3/4 of the way around, two security guards grab him and pull him off the edge. They don’t realize who he is, thinking he is a fan climbing. When they realize their error, they let him go. Ed stands on the edge of the balcony and then drops down onto the crowd below – quite a drop but they catch him! Then he “swims” to the stage, picks up the mic and says, “I can do … whatever the fuck I want!” ‘Happy Birthday’ is sung to Mike. Ed introduces Henry Rollins and someone (tour manager, Eric Johnson) looking and dressing very much like Henry comes on stage. “Henry” has a huge happy face drawn on his back with magic marker.

That wasn't my first show but those 2 '98 Camden shows probably remain my personal favorites. PJ hadn't played in Philly for like 5+ years, and you could tell they were both excited to be there and also wanted to make up for lost time. 2 fantastic shows.

No tags on anything except for an extended version of Wishlist. I think the MP3 is about 8 minutes. :) "Start me up" was during the middle of the song:

...my friends don't call...my friends don't... *cough*.... call me doctor... (as Ed was getting over a cold)
....if you start me up...start me up I'll never stop...if you rub me up... rub me up, I'll blow my top...you'll make a dead man cum....make a dead man cum...

enc 1: Given To Fly, Wishlist, Not For You/(Start Me Up), Footsteps, Do The Evolution, Jeremy
    enc 2: Fuckin’ Up
    enc 3: Yellow Ledbetter
notes: Ed thanks the people in the back after ‘Elderly Woman’ and makes a quip about the 17-year locusts. He mentions a request for Mike, leading to a bit bit of Zep riffing (‘Nobody’s Fault But Mine’) between Matt and Mike before ‘Red Mosquito.’ Ed talks about being ready to do the song if he “… can just shift himself” (Robert Plant reference). The improv is about Ohio and “Me oh my oh, lost in Ohio … I’m in Ohio high oh … just making my way through Ohio where the sky is and the roads are long … went back to Ohio and my city was gone” (nod to Pretenders). At the start of the encore, Ed thanks the Buzzcocks and talks about watching a video where a band was pretending to be a punk band and he thanks the “real thing,” the Buzzcocks. “Buzzcocks were opening for the Sex Pistols before I was fondling my first erection,” and he talks of how he met them a long time ago when he was a crew guy carrying their gear. “You never know how things will turn out.” ‘Wishlist’ has an extended instrumental ending with additional lyrics:”I wish I was this, I wish I was that; I wish I could do this, I wish I could do that … they don’t care about you, they don’t care about me; they just care about money money money money money … there ain’t no love in Washington DC anymore, but there’s love here, in your houses and your homes … when you’re singing alone … use it like a weapon, a weapon of mass construction.” This leads to a ‘Not For You’ intro: “… so it’s not for you, its for them.” Ed tags a little of “Start Me Up” in the middle, asking for a little background (“if you start me up, I’ll never stop … you make a dead man cum”). Ed says, “Threw in a a song by the Folksmen, there …” (joking about the Spinal Tap spin off band known for performing a sanitized, folk version of the Rolling Stones’ ‘Start Me Up’). “Don’t know if you recognized it. Don’t know if you’ll understand this next one, too. It goes early early early as we go … certainly not one raped on the radio or anything,” leading to Footsteps. During ‘DTE,’ “I am the first man to act like Elvis” as he is wearing the crazy Elvis sunglasses. Ed introduces the band and says they will be doing a song written by Mr. Neil Young, adding “This is George W’s favorite song, leading to ‘Fuckin’ Up.’ They return for a surprising third encore with Ed noting, “You can thank Mr. Stone Gossard for this one,” and they close with ‘YL.’

People were LEAVING before Ledbetter! I told my buddy that I didn't think they were done and we should stay. I was right. :)

For one of the encores, Ed came back onto the stage via skateboard. :)

    1) I got to hear Ed talking about his boner (if even tongue-in-cheek) during my first show.
    2) And Ed carrying the Sex Pistol's gear? Joking about that, any truth to it?

notes: The English Beat's 'Save it for Later' snippet tossed into 'Better Man' sound great! Ed pays homage to Josh Ling during a quiet part of 'State:' "I recognize you. You were in the front row just the other night. I recognize you ... how you doin'?" :) In a reference to the lunar eclipse, Ed says, "It's happening right now. I just wanna rip the roof off this place." He get the crowd to yell three times, laughs and launches into 'Habit.' 'RVM' features the slow beginning. Toward the end of 'Alive,' Dennis Rodman takes the stage and puts Ed up on his shoulders, where Ed completes the song. Prior to the 'Noise of Carpet' outro, Ed utters the words, "black red yellow." After 'Blood,' Ed retrieves a shirt tossed onstage, saying "Hey look, plaid, grunge; it's purple." The Fastbacks help PJ with 'Leaving Here,' singing backup vocals and Ed expressing hope that the "boys up front will pay attention to the lyrics." 'Patriot' is performed solo by Ed, accompanying himself on guitar with the rest of the band watching from the side of the stage.
