First name that popped into my mind was Shannon Hoon. I really liked the direction they went with "Soup". A shame we weren't able to see them develop any further.

True, that is an incredibly impressive list to have seen them all live. Sun Ra even, that must've been quite a trip!
I guess it almost goes without saying for a Who fan that I miss Keith and John. I'm fortunate (and old enough) to have seen the band with its original members. I also got to see Jimi live and music lost a special kind of genius when we lost him.
Others I miss:
John Lennon
George Harrison
Ronnie Lane
Steve Marriott
Bob Marley
Brian Jones
Jim Capaldi
Janis Joplin
Jim Morrison
Stevie Ray Vaughn
Bugs Henderson
And the one nobody ever seems to remember: Randy California. I was a big Spirit fan in my teens and got to see them as a trio in the 80s. Even though he wasn't making music anymore, that dude was talented enough to be in a band with Hendrix when he was just 15. Twelve Dreams of Dr. Sardonicus is one of the best albums of the 70s.

For me its Shannon Hoon....I was really into these guys when they came out.... Had both their albums and loved them both... So sad when I heard the news he passed away. I remember it to this day... Really thought this band and Shannon had so much more great music in them.
Arthur Russell - passed away way, way, way before he recieved a fraction of the praise he deserved. Jeff Buckley
Mark Linkous

Uuuuuhh, just listening to him now, such a shame. Jeff was absolutely amazing, haunting and listening to his voice now makes my soul cry. :(

The 2 names that immediately sprang to mind were Jack Rose and Elliott Smith. I still listen to them both all the time, almost daily.
For anyone that doesn't know Jack's music, I highly recommend checking out "Raag Manifestoes" or "Kensington Blues". Jack was one of my all time favourite guitarists and a genuinely lovely person. He was just 38 when he passed in 2009.
