during her sound check singer madonna noticed fans smoking. she went off on them threatening them with her leaving and not doing the show. pretty good little rant she gave them. do you agree or disagree with this? my question... was it a indoor or outdoor venue down there in Chile?

i actually get where she's coming from. in today's day & age smoking is very much looked down upon. and smoking in public is definetly how one can make sure they look like a total ass.

she says she cares about them, that she loves them and if they care & love her they'll stop their smoking

I'm a total hypocrite on this issue, Chadwick because I would be very unhappy to be around people smoking cigarettes around me at a show but would have no problem with everyone around me smoking refers.

  • I can understand her feelings on it, but she likely over reacted. Either way, she's kinda irrelevant as of late. IMO anyway.

I saw her in Seattle a few months ago (Great show, btw) and she asked the audience politely to not smoke, (which should be a no-brainer at a show) because fans had been smoking at her previous show and she was recovering from a cold. It's not her making a stink, it's people being rude and not using their brains. And it really bothers me when people say that she's "Irrelevant anyway" because it's your opinion and no one is irrelevant to everyone. I don't expect a lot of Madonna fans on the PJ boards for obvious reasons, but are PJ as popular as they once were? No. They are relevant to us because we love them, they are iconic and inspiring to us. Madonna is Madonna.

    Madonna is Madonna.
And therein lies the problem :P

Nah, I get her stance on that issue; just seems she overreacted.

I remember at a PJ show once I lit up a fat joint and a lady I was sitting by said, "Put that out, you can't do that in here!" I smiled.

i got some good wiffs of cigarette smoke from two smokers some months back, it literally made me ill so badly i had to go in the house, take a cool shower & lie down for a few hours. this was outdoors & the two were gathering around where i have a wooden bench we sit on.

now... can a couple hundred or couple thousand people lighting up indoors (or outdoors) at a venue during a musical performance affect the musicians & the singer? i would imagine that at a indoor arena one would be super fucked when breathing

i've saw places myself completely filled with smoked, both refer & tobacco burning. madonna is also a eccentric mad-woman to the highest order, that i am sure of. of course this i find cool about folks. gotta love a full on eccentric whack job

I love Madonna, always will, regardless of what soapbox she might be on at the moment..
I disagree with this because Madonna has been known to smoke cigarettes, as have many of her 'partners'. I personally find this just as ludicrous as those people who say that Eddie Vedder should not smoke cigarettes.

However.. the 'voice' thing, and the indoor/outdoor venue aspect has credence..

[as I guess it would for a 53 year old]

You see? This is why Roger Daltrey mentions his "allergy" then tells us to bring brownies next time. :D

Right, this is equally as ludicrous because 1 joint equals SEVEN cigarettes, I read at some point.

Yeah, but we're not smoking 2 packs of joints a day. At least I hope not. :o

no, I had that math wrong and had to edit.. 2.5 joints would equal one pack of smokes.

2 packs of joints would be equivalent to 5 and 1/2 'packs' of cigarettes.. IF the joints were rolled in 1.5's, and not in blunts.
  • So this was at an outdoor venue?

    What?

    Shut the fuck up, Madonna.

I'm gonna go have a cigarette
  • Madonna names her album after a drug, uses a fake gun onstage, shows her bare arse to an audience but gets offended by someone smoking?

funny... all she did was ask for people to not smoke, the fans were just a couple of feet from her. i think her anger was out of frustration and the lack of respect shown her.

i wonder what the reaction would be if ed ask people to not do something (whatever for whatever reason) and people right in his face continue as if he didnt ask to stop.

say what you want about her, her music, her life and etc but she has done things her way, not too many can say the same, especially women in music.

Fuck Madonna. I wish she'd just leave the music industry period. I find her act getting older then her worn out, abused rag doll self. I'm trying to sencer my true feelings about her cuz I find her a complete joke. I know there's a bunch in here who love her, but I also know there's a bunch in here who can't stand her. If you really knew the REAL Madonna, you might have a different view on her. Trust me, there's a lot of her people don't know.

Oh I can see the REAL her, know the real her and don't like the real or fake her. Anybody see a copy of the secret video of Madonna when she was 16 or 17? If you don't know what video I'm talking about, do some research and try to find it. You have to belong to a special group to get that video. Heard its the num1 most requested video in the club. :corn:
  • I was in the 4th row for the who at pru and roger was getting pissed at someone smoking in our section. He kept walking over making the throat slit gesture. He never said anything over the mic but he was definitely pissed off.

I saw them at MSG recently and he went behind the drums to sit down and take a breather while Pete jammed on the guitar. He mentioned that people should consider brownies next time. He's allergic to smoke I guess, not sure if that's just pot or cigarettes too. I'd imagine cigarette smoke bothers him too.

I can understand that, especially if it really bothers you in the sense of having a physical reaction to it. Concerts, especially rock concerts, yeah....people will smoke.

I guess I cut more slack to those who typically act in a decent manner. I have to roll my eyes at Madonna's tantrum because this melodramatic shit isn't new for her - it's an old act, at least to me.

If you overreact to most everything (and are surrounded by those who support and encourage those overreactions), no one's gonna take you seriously when you actually "mean" it.
