    Grace Potter and the Nocturnals
It's nice to be nice to the nice.
  • Bob Dylan
  • The eels or eels....
    The kills
  • No Eric Clapton? I guess you have Cream, but that's still missing. Associated - Blind Faith.

Also, Traffic, Allman Brothers, Yes, Genesis.

I know none of them are new, but all the better. You get to "discover" them as if they are.
Sorry. The world doesn't work the way you tell it to.
  • Arcade Fire
    Mumford & Sons
    RNDM
    Tom Petty
    ACDC

Good collection, but a some pretty big gaps.

    Here's some I noticed...

    The Allman Brothers Band
    The Band

    Elvis Costello
Eric Clapton/Blind Faith/Derek & The Dominos (at least you have Cream)
    Fleetwood Mac/Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac
    Frank Zappa
    Grateful Dead
Green Day (I can take 'em or leave 'em, but I like the early stuff)
    Guns N Roses
    The Guesss Who
    Iggy Pop/Iggy And The Stooges
    Joe Walsh
    Jethro Tull
    Joy Division
    The Kinks
    Live
    Lynyrd Skynyrd
    Metallica
    Nine Inch Nails
    The Offspring
    The Police
The Presidents Of The United States Of America
    Primus
    Ramones
    Rancid
    The Replacements
    Rush
    Sex Pistols
    Talking Heads
    Toadies
Tom Petty/Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers
    Tripping Daisy
    Van Halen
    The Velvet Underground/Lou Reed
    Violent Femmes
    Weezer
    The Yardbirds

Also, I noticed you put The Beatles, but didn't list any solo albums. John, Paul and George all have must own albums, and Ringo has a couple that aren't must own, but are good to have. His greatest hits will suffice.

  • Black Lips (along the lines of Black Keys/Sabbath/Fugazi...garage/punk rock)
    Spoon (Sounds similar to Beck/Cake)
Cold War Kids (if you like Arctic Monkeys you'll dig)
    My Goodness (Black Keys-ish)
JJ Grey & Mofro, once known as just Mofro (good ole southern swamp rock)
alt-J (new band who kind of reminds me of earlier Radiohead)
Monsters of Folk (a must have for any My Morning Jacket fan; Jim James is involved)
Deer Tick, Dawes and Middle Brother (Middle Brother consists of members of Dawes, Deer Tick & Delta Spirit)
RNDM (my favorite PJ -Jeff- side project in a while)
Portugal. The Man (just a feeling you may like them as I share a lot of your tastes)

That should be a good start!

Feedback is welcome if you do choose to check any of these artists out.

I knew that one was coming. I definitely do need Dylan. Thing is, he has so many albums, I never know where to start. I know all his big hits and a few others, but I feel lame starting with greatest hits.

When it comes to somebody with SO many albums, I don't think anybody would fault you for getting a Greatest Hits. And with Dylan you have the option of buying all three of his greatest hits in a box set. Only about $32 on Amazon too.

That's how I started off with Dylan, the three greatest hits, not in box set form. They're all great, and then you can figure out where to go.

Really love this Slash album: http://www.amazon.com/Slash/dp/B0039OGG ... ords=slash

He basically wrote guitar riffs and farmed them out to various singers who then wrote lyrics and melody. I love Promise (with Chris Cornell), Gotten (with Adam Levine), I Hold On (with Kid Rock) and Back from Cali and Starlight (with Myles Kennedy) but they are all pretty awesome.

The new album with Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators is good but I'm hoping their next album will blow me away. We'll see!

Also, did anyone get these yet?
    The Verve, Urban Hymns: http://www.amazon.com/Urban-Hymns-Verve ... =the+verve
    Weezer, http://www.amazon.com/Weezer-Blue-Album ... rds=weezer

And do you also have Chris Cornell's Euphoria Morning? I know you mentioned Chris Cornell but many people didn't know about this album, wanted to make sure you have it, it's a must!

I recommend a Freewheelin' Bob Dylan. At least that's my favorite.

The Black Angels. Check out 'Passover' and 'Phosphene Dream.' They're dark modern day psychedelia.

Liars lastest album, WIXIW is really good, kind of indie ambient with dark sinister undertones, well worth checking out.

Grinderman, Nick Caves side project, they have two albums, both superb and just as good as any of his main work.

Feist, female singer songwriter, last album Metals is a great listen.

And if you want to check out some awesome New Zealand music seek out these bands, Dimmer, The Vietnam War, The Phoenix Foundation and Bailter Space all alternative, weird and brilliant!

If you like 60's music, you should pick up some beach boys. Pet Sounds, Smile and their early hits 1962-1965 are essential if you're a music fan.

Also, the Zombies are fantastic. Odyssey and Oracle has to be one of the best pop albums ever.

Kind of a strange place to start. That would be like telling somebody to start with a Pearl Jam compilation that goes from 2000 to 2009 (which I know doesn't exist), though there are some great songs it's missing the "classic" period. It does have Lola and You Really Got Me, but live versions from later in their career.

I would suggest getting "The Ultimate Collection", it's 2 CDs and spans from '64-'84 instead of just '77-'86. And has most of their popular songs (minus Father Christmas, but you can get that as a bonus track on Misfits), though it still has some holes. After that I'd probably go with Arthur or Lola vs Powerman. Both are fantastic albums.

I've been on a big Kinks tear lately. Some of the best rhythm guitar ever. I love the rhythm guitar in Powerman. It's kind of low in the mix, and doesn't come in until a little ways in the song. It's really not all that fancy, it just sounds perfect.
