I will be in Scottsdale for the next 45 days.

I really like it so far, but not really familiar with the area.

Any recommendations for activities or good spots to go?

What are the greatest bars/venues to see bands ( well known / underground.. )

Thanks (:

Sedona is fantastic it's not too bad of a drive either.. the tpc scottsdale if you're into golf. I hear you can hike up the camel mountain too.

Check out Jerome AZ too. Maynard from tool has a wine bar there.

The music scene is pretty lame. There are some places in Tempe that have live music, but its never usually worth the cover.
Def head up to Sedona. The slopes are opening soon in Flagstaff and Sunrise...if you're in to skiing or boarding.
If you're a golfer, you are in one of the greatest golf towns in the country. Rates are steep right now, but the golf is amazing.
Also, check out Old Town Scottsdale for the bar scene. Lots of fun clubs and hole in the wall places that are a ton of fun! Tons of smoking hot chicks too! and lots of celebs hang out down there. Tempe, specifically Mill Ave. is fun. It's a very college crowd, but fun....also...tons of smokin hot college chicks! :D
There are some amazing restaurants all over Scottsdale. Let me know if you're looking for anything specific.

Camelback is a nice day hike. While in the center of town, it's a much tougher hike than you'd think. Dozens of out of towers are hauled off the mountain each year because they underestimate it. Nice view from the top!

On a geeky side note I went to the Biosphere down near Tucson. I'm into shit like that. It was cool. I would recommend it.

    Here's my rec's (as a former resident):

Best Mexican Food in Phoenix: Los Dos Molinos This place makes it HOT - using New Mexican hatch peppers. Their machaca and adovada garlic pork are amazing. Should you find the climate cooler, make sure to get a bowl of pozole. The kick ass margarita is awesome. Atmosphere is spectacular. Make it a point to eat there, especially the South Central Ave location.

Best place to see live music: Marquee Theater - intimate and KILLER sound. Social D will be there in January.

Brewery: Four Peaks - great grub, killer local beer scene - Kilt Lifter is especially yummy

Shopping: Fashion Square Mall and Old Town - if you are into shopping, you'll dig these places.

Hiking: Camelback Mtn and South Mountain

People watching: Tempe - Mill Ave. Catch a Suns game. Check out Gainey Ranch. Fun place - tons to do.
