cool little website, illustrating just how wonderful the US is
http://rankingamerica.wordpress.com/

* The United States ranked at the bottom of a UNICEF survey of child welfare in 21 wealthy countries and finished dead last in the survey’s health and safety category, based on infant mortality, vaccinations for childhood diseases, and deaths from injuries and accidents.

* A recent survey by the Luxembourg Income Study reported that the safety nets of children in the US are weakest of all industrialized countries. The U.S. woefully underfunds services to families with children, such as subsidized day care services, adequate health coverage and preventative care for children.

* The US easily leads the industrialized world in child poverty, with more than one in five US children living below the poverty line. Children of color are disproportionately poor, with over one in four Black and Hispanic children, and two in five newborns to kindergartners, living in poverty.

* Every year 3.3 million reports of child abuse are made in the US, giving it the worst record among the industrialized nations – losing five children every day due to abuse-related deaths.

(if these studies are accurate....this site must hate america, i for posting this, must hate america, i should go live somewhere else)

there is a social infrastructure in many of those countries ... americans don't believe in socialism ... so, whether the stats are completely accurate or not, it is likely indicative of a country that philosophically believes in me vs. we ...

Keeping the American dream alive.. Some would be surprised. The conservatives hatred for helping others with welfare is the issue. All other wealthy countries have more respect for the collective as opposed to the somewhat individualistic and selfish society here.

A thought on the US being a wealthy country ... if your neighbor owed credit card companies $750,000 and didn't have any money to pay them back, would you consider your neighbor wealthy?

    No you're right.
I think their is a lot of money floating around the USA but their is a shit load of bad debt also. sad that assume America is number 1 in all the good factors including health care, poverty etc and its just not the case.
