What PJ shows are you thankful for getting tickets to

Okay, so I got locked out today as well. So, to make myself feel better, I thought about the hot PJ shows of the past that I'm thankful to have gotten tickets for. In the long run, every concert eventually becomes part of the past and just a memory.

Pearl Jam at Benaroya in 2003. When I look back at my Pearl Jam Concert days, I will always remember this. In the long run, I would take this show over seeing Ed solo any day. I just lucked out getting a ticket via my sister.

The Gorge in 2005. 14th row thanks to Ten Club. To make this better, I got a signed Klausen poster of the show at Flatstock 05 from Brad two days later for $25.

Pearl Jam at the LA Henry Fonda Theatre 2006. I waited outside for three hours without a ticket (it was a radio show contest ticketed event) when they let me in (and a ton of other people) in for free. That was the smallest venue I'd ever seen PJ in...and the closest I've been to them on stage.

So, even if I get locked out Friday from any EV shows, I have a lot of great shows under my belt so I can't really complain.

BUT, I will be trying my hardest Friday of course.

Nice thread. All of them actually. I appreciate every show I've been at, and wish I would have gone to more. But, probably my most appreciated is my first 11/3/93 that my hubby bought for me as surprise anniversary present. :)

Drop in the Park is the one I will always remember. The radio station (the End 107.7) announced for days that at Noon on whatever day, they would announce where they will give away free tickets. I just knew it had to be the Seattle Center - where else could they handle all those people? So - at Noon there were a bunch of freaks (myself included) all driving around the Seattle Center, and when they announced it, all of a sudden, there were people driving over curbs to get into the parking lot LOL then all of us running to get to the center. We were allowed 2 tickets per person, so my car was full w/ 4 folks - we walked away with 8 tickets. The ticket limit was reached quickly and some *jerks* were selling them within minutes of the free tickets running out.

Then came the day of the show. I remember walking to the busses (as you had to be bussed to the park) and have more *jerks* everywhere trying to sell tickets for $100 and more - and PJ staff walking around with big handfuls of tickets shouting over them saying 'free tickets' and 'if you showed up - you're going to the show', etc. I thought that was the coolest thing that any band has ever done :)

Oh yeah, I forgot "Drop in the Park". I got tickets for that as well from a friend who was working security at the show (we were both at the Univ. of Wash). He called me up and offered me two tickets the night before. I took them and called all my friends to see who wanted to go and nobody wanted to go! So, I went alone. I still have that unused ticket today as well as the used one. That was definitely a huge show at the time (sept of 1992).

This is a cool thread.. great idea!

Lolla '92.. my friend got me a ticket as a gift and it was my first time seeing PJ.

HoB.. an expensive ticket, but a great cause. Plant + PJ = amazing!

I missed out on Vic tickets, but luckily a really awesome friend hooked me up. A great show, only dampened by the fact that so many other friends weren't there.

There are shows that stand out, but really, as a whole, I'm thankful for all the tickets I've gotten throughout the years. Soundtrack of my life and all.. :)

Wachovia 05 and Borgata night 2 05. I was shut out for both of them. I got a Borgata night 2 for face value the day before the show from a wonderful fan who had a last minute family emergency and couldn't make the show. She made a post on craigslist and wanted to sell it to a real fan and picked me. Wound up waiting 8 hours in line and got front row in front of Mike and caught a pick during SOLAT.

I was shut out from Wachovia 05 for the same reason today which was hurt me real bad because I can see the Wachovia Center from my house.. Server shut down after my credit card was entered in and my credit card was charged but I didn't get a confirmation or tix. A great friend with a 5 digit ten club number took me as her guest and I got front row with her. We bought a hat that day as a present and Ed took it from us wore it for a bit and put it on top of the bat wings for the rest of the show. If you have the dvd, you can see it - a black and white houndstooth hat.

What I originally thought was going to be a horribly depressing weekend turned out to be my fav PJ weekend of all time.

Obviously the Vic, and 6th row seats for the Stones and PJ in Pittsburgh in '05. 'Twas my high school graduation present. I have no idea how my dad got the tickets he says he only paid 99 bucks a piece for em from tickets.com the day they went on sale, but it always sounded too easy and cheap.

Also I was thankful for getting every pair of ticket I got in 06 for Hartford, Albany and Boston, especially when Boston 1 went on sale 2 minutes before they were supposed to and I had them by 1 EST, when they were supposed to go on sale at 1
    32 shows and counting...

My first show was Indio in 1993. My friend had an extra ticket, but no ride. I had a car and no money... so, I figured, What the Hell... I ain't got nothing better to do. It changed me from a Nirvana nut to a Pearl Jam Fan... although I admit... it took a couple of days to sink in.
I'm grateful for the Alburqurque show because I had let my membership lapse in 1999 and missed out on the 2000 Ten Club seats (the last tour there was a One Show per member). I ended up in the third row on Stone's side. I also won a pair from KROQ that year... those were about 30 rows back at Glen Helen, san Bernardino.
I was grateful to get the 2003 Santa Barbara show... those were tough because you had to drive to Santa Barbara to get one pair. I never thought I'd ever get to hear 'Hunger Strike'... let alone, with Chris Cornell this late in the game.
And I'm very grateful I made the buddy up pact at the 2001 Bridge School with Victor for the 2003 tour. I thought my number was low and Victor would appreciate it... turns out, Victor is in the 69,000s and we ended up in the third or fourth row for every show. Although we did swap out the Vegas gig to move back to let other friends share in our good fortune.
And I'm grateful for all of the Los Angeles V.I.P.s and Guest Listers flakes who didn't show up for the Henry Fonda gig in 2006 because their failure to show allowed me and about 100 others get in for the people's price of FREE.
And thankful to get awesome seats for the U2/Pearl Jam gig in Hawaii and to be there with my close friends... who got them for free as a guest from a friend of hers who know Bono.

    Great thread!

Like most I was thankful to get tickets to any PJ show, but the ones that stand out the most are:

6/22/95 My first and still my favorite. My friend and I were both of the phone with EFT EMT Whatever the hell getting busy signal after busy signal until I finally got through. Everything about that night was electric!

10/19&20/96: Bridge School Such a special night, and this show was amazing from PT showng up unannounced to the jam at the end with Neil, PJ, Bowie, and Patti Smith!!

11/19/97: Night four of their stint opening for the Stones. I was at all four, but none better than Front Row Center. Amazing!

10/3/05: Wachovia. My gf bought me tickets the day of the show and had tickets on Stone's side in the lower wing. Incredible night, best Crazy Mary EVER!!! :D

I got a pavillion ticket for Alpine 2003 off Ebay. Had such a blast with the seller and his friends that at the end of the show I gave the dude my extra poster from that show.

The Commodore in 2000. Radio winners only. Also won pearls for my mom as it was around mother's day.
Won't get to see them in such a small venue again.

I got in both nights Showbox 2002. Decided to go last minute.
Got the first night by calling on the phone.

Scored the second night from my friend Manuel, the Chilean dude that Ed mentioned during the show.
I thought I was going to be shut out, I was waiting at the end of the stand-by line 20 minutes before the show, with about 200 people in front of me and scalpers wanting $500 for a ticket, when Manuel came running up to me and said "Hey do you got $35 bucks for a ticket?" I said "Hell yeah thank you!!!"
  • this is a really cool thread :)

i'm thankful for every opportunity i've had, absolutely. winning the lottery for the santa barbara show in 03 and getting 7th row was a TOTAL gift! so special. and the toledo VFC show was mindblowing, i loved it.

each show has a special quality to it, whether it be the setlist, the location, or the people i shared it with - each a unique facet in the jewel that is live PJ (i know, it's corny, but i'm all filled with bliss for scoring the berkeley tix today :o lol)

First time I got to see them live, small venue, my life changed then and there, met them all after the show too, my mind was exploading...
  • obviously grateful for all the shows ive been too but the two that stand out are

Benaroya Hall-I scored tickets from Ticketmaster!!!somehow!!! at the time was the closest I had been to the band and i was in like row 25.

Sydney 1 06- I was sitting in an empty seat with some friends in the second row dead center and the guy to my right asks me if it was my seat i tentatively say no im back in the tenth row he says oh well thats my other seat and i couldnt find anyone to use my extra 10c ticket and he hands me the ticket. Amazing, i was in awe as I had never been that close.

  • Reading 06.

I was given my ticket by Urbanhippie cuz she couldn't go at the last minute. She didn't want any money for it (I was stupidly skint at the time, hence not buying my own) but she'd rather have given me her ticket and have me REALLY enjoy the gig than sell it on eBay and make money.

    She's a Legend :D
Been to this many PJ shows: Reading 2006 London 2007 Manchester & London 2009 Dublin, Belfast, London, Nijmegen & Berlin 2010 Manchester 1 & Manchester 2 2012...

... and I still think Drive-By Truckers are better.
  • Like everyone, Grateful for all of my shows...

The one that stands out is Missoula 2005, kickoff of Tester's campaign. Was dating a girl whose brother worked for the Governor of MT. We had good seats(1st row, Second level). Well, her bro wasn't happy with the seats. He made some phone calls... We ended up 10th row!!! And then a couple months later Tester WON. Made being at the show even more special.

I am thankful for all 30 of the PJ shows I have seen thus far!

Most memorable would be front row center Hartford 98 and Jones Beach 2000. I miss living on the East coast sometimes!! The 3 showbox shows and Benaroya since moving have been amazing shows!

probably seeing them at VA beach back in 2000...

my friends and i were only 17 at the time, and made the trek down from jersey. stayed in VA beach for a week and had the time of our lives.

then we capped that summer off with a 3 night stint at jones beach. great way to end a memorable summer with close friends before we all went to college.

there have been several... my first in '92 was special, because i was so into Pearl Jam when they came out and i could not find a single soul who wanted to see them with me at NY's Limelight (an old converted church)... needless to say, it was a night to remember...

i also loved seeing them in Mexico City and Hawaii (opening for U2)...
