This is YOUR FAULT.
YOU DID THIS.

Yep.
If you didn't support free speech, we wouldn't have violence infecting every facet of global entertainment. We wouldn't have free push-button communication for the spewing of viral hate and vitrol that indoctrinates people from a young age in to cults of hate and fear, and unfortunate violence.

I'm all for free speech. As long as it doesn't break any rules or laws. Say what you want.

Okay... so, the actions of violence is because we are free to speak of violence? If we did not express our thoughts and beliefs... we would not have violence?
Please, expand on your initial thoughts.
    Thanx.

I want to scream FIRE in a crowded theater or yell BOMB on a plane with no reprecussions. Since we have free speech as our FIRST basic right , I should be able to do so , public welfare be damned.

Let me add... I support Freedom of Speech because I don't want my government to corner the market on what I'm supposed to hear.
And YES... we live in a world where horrible truths exist... greed, lust, murder, war, hatred. We should know of these things because they do exist... and they exist because it is part of Mankind... not because it is on television. I WANT to know there are Klansmen and Nazis out there because I want to be able to spot them. The best way to spot them is through the words they say and the actions they undertake. I oppose their views, but will defend their rights to express them. I will fight their actions because, unlike words, actions can kill. Last time I checked, no one was killed by a word... millinons have died due to actions.
So... if you really believe that I am to blame.. I am the one who pulls the trigger... go right ahead. I'm calling bullshit on your words... because that is my right.

Plenty of free speech lobbies. Also, the NRA doesn't advocate people getting guns and go on shooting sprees. They promote safe gun ownership, not this.

I certainly could be wrong but they are not to my knowledge proposing anything that might help?

I may be off, but based on Drifting's earlier posts in another thread and some of the reactions, I think I get where he's coming from here.

For whatever it's worth (hey, it's just an opinion, so probably not worth more than a wooden nickel), but from what I've read, this fellow has my respect for some beautifully stated thoughts on a variety of issues. May not always agree, but always appreciate the perspective, especially as presented.

Today, for me, has transcended a shitload of emotions that run the gamut - and introduced me to a few I haven't experienced before.

I know I'm not alone in this.

For now, why not cut each other some slack?

    Definitely not, my friend.

Your analogy is a poor one in your attempt to mock earlier posts. How about I mock your belief that without a big supply of guns, the government will become tyrannical? And the subsequent argument that it is every citizen's duty to own a weapon to be ready for such an event?

I swore an oath when I joined the navy, oh 24 years ago, to defend the constitution against all enemies foreign and domestic.

I still stand by that oath today, but it happens at the ballot box not at the barrel of a gun.

Great men who'd be rolling over in their graves knowing what their country has become. Take a face slap yourself for not adapting and making the obvious and necessary changes they no doubtedly would have expected given how the world has changed.

They had the tough job. Yours is easy except you neglect to do it.
