I think it's more productive to debate some of the individual points of fiscal policy than to just point a finger at Republicans, Obama, Democrats, Boehner, etc.

As it relates to this article specifically, handing the office of the President the absolute power to raise the debt limit is a very bad idea. Regardless of where you think cuts or revenues should be coming from, that ability to print money is one of the root problems of why our economy is in such terrible shape.

I just think that Boehner and his fellow cohorts need to drop the ultimatum bullshit. There's a lot to be said for compromise, but republicans refuse to do such a thing, and continue to prevent any real discussion, negotiation and solutions from happening.

On what points, though? And where do you feel concessions have already been made by President Obama or Democrats?

Are you kidding? I am not talking specifically for this imaginary fiscal cliff. I'm talking that it's just more of the same from Congress...

the gop is a dying brand. election results be damned, they are going to keep holding on to the same positions that lost them the last election. the same positions the american people rejected, and the same postions that the american people are still rejecting per the latest polls...

this is what a party with no clear leader does... absolutely nothing.

if they keep it up they are gonna lose the house next election too.

  • Oh here we go ....guys....just hear me out. Obama wants to raise taxes on the rich from %35 to %39.6. That would raise 82 billion dollars per year, raising taxes on the so called rich is %2 of the population. Boehner is about to give that to Obama. This is what Obama has wanted all along. He is about to get it.
Now what do Republicans want? All they want is true spending cuts. Guess what, Obama hasnt given anything. What he has proposed is a complete joke! I want all of you on this forum to show me what true spending cuts that Obama has proposed. Please show me now! I want to see them!
Obama is using the media whores to twist the truth which is , accusing the Republicans of being obstructionist! He is playing his cards. Think about this....he wants the rich to pay now, and he wants to give the Republicans their cuts over time. DUH WTF!
You think Boehner is going to bend over and say put it up my ars! LOL CMon people see the truth for what it is!

  • 1/2 of one branch of 3 branches of govt. and many of you will continue to believe that the cliff is caused by Republicans......think again....look again!

Tax increases will do nothing to fix any problem we have. Cuts and reforms are the only way.

I say all Republicans should just lay everything down, give Obama a blank check, raise the debt ceiling and let Obama OWN it all! Give it all to him! You would be happy huh?

Many of you just think that Obama's all right and Republicans are all wrong, we dont need cuts and reforms at all. We just need to tax the rich more, huh? Is that what you all believe?

LOL Ok guess what, you live in a fantasy world! You can steal all the rich's assets, money, stocks, businesses, etc. and it wont do a damn thing! Obama is dividing us for %10 of the problem!

Please people, understand that Obama is causing more a mess than what needs to be, we are sucking money out of the private sector and wasting it, all while still going a trillion in debt for each year? Cmon! WOW

Along with only raising $82B, Obama is proposing to spend an additional $50B on transportation projects in his proposal.

How does this avoid another debt increase? The ceiling is at $16.4 trillion. We are at $16 trillion in debt. Next year's projected deficit is over $1 trillion. And we are projected a net increase of $32B per Obama's plan.

The only way this can work is if we are pushed over the fiscal cliff. Everyone's taxes go up. Spending cuts take place. And the GOP is blamed.

This is a much better scenario then for Obama having to raise the debt ceiling next summer and taking blame for it.

John Boehner not my favorite guy... seems cocky.

The news clip I saw showing he and our President yucking it up
made me feel sick. They're both up to no good and seem to be great friends
    while doing it.

This is what I'm talking about. Broad brushstrokes and eye rolls. No discussion of issues or points made about solutions.

The "Cliff" itself is much more of a compromise than R's are ever willing to make, so at this point I'm happy to just go over it and take the negotiations from there. Then we're just talking about who's taxes are going to be cut and by how much, and the R clowns don't have to worry about their stupid pledges.

i say we go over the "cliff".

Compromise? Compromise? Surely you can't be serious.
Compromise with an anti-American, anti-capitalist, socialist, radical Kenyan Muslim who wants to take our freedom and guns away???

    No way!! Not in 'Merica!!

Unfortunately years of overspending during the Bush II years has taken away some of the credibility Republicans have on spending.

But... the Republicans are correct now that drastic spending cuts are needed. They are okay with the tax hikes. The President needs to make good on spending cuts which he has not come close to.

Please explain to me how President Obama has had trillion dollar deficits in all four years of his presidency and the Republicans are wrong in asking for true spending cuts?

Oh, we're "SHEEPLE?" You hear that Gimmie, Jeanwah, Johnny? We're "SHEEPLE." Damn, I never knew it. It took a troll to point it out. Thanks for that, "fear4freedom."

And you, "fear4freedom" (an apt name) have proven yourself to be quite the educated, articulate, logical individual. I think most on the AMT would agree with me there, for sure.

    What a disgrace.
