Syria Saran Gas POLL

Well this is a poll to figure out how passivists would fight potential evil before evil is done.

Yes or no answer.

Question. Syria has mixed and loaded up Saran Gas into aerial bombs. The Assad regime can do something very evil as a last ditch effort and could possibly kill tens of thousands within one minute or so. This would be a secenario in which we cannot even fathom. There is a 60 day shelf life in the deadly mixture. This gas kills instantly! The USA has sent ships, troops, aircraft, etc. to the nearly border of Syria. We are acting as a deterrent without even pulling a trigger or shooting anything at them. We will try to negotiate a peace deal, while showing the evil regime our forces capabilities. If Assad is suicidal or unhinged, he may need to be dealt with on a level in which most of us do not want to go to. Well, if you realized that Assad had a deathwish and he was going to use the gas on his own people, do you strategically bomb him and his cohorts? 10 bombs in strategic areas to thwart Assad's attempt to gas his own people? Do you?

We would setup the revlutionairies to take over and get rid of Assad's regime. Like we did in Libya. Do you do it? Yes or no?

No, but then "fear" is not my operative word.

By the way, where's the citation for this information?

israel has been exchanging fire with syrian forces the last few weeks. let them handle it and let us stop meddling in the middle east.

the better question is, how can those conservatives who are opposed to any further spending yet support our own military getting involved in ANOTHER foreign country, propose we pay for any such action????

You've set up a scenario in which there CAN only be one response and that is to answer violence with violence. Why not dig further and follow the problem to its root. Why are the Syrians doing what they are doing? Is there any way they can be stopped at the root? Most likely there is and if only those involved had changed their actions at the root then we wouldn't have to resort to violence because there wouldn't BE a problem.
Are we getting something out of this all-encompassing trip?

what are you suggesting we do about it? what is your plan? obama intervenes people will bitch. he does nothing, people will bitch. what would you do? would you commit other people's kids to go die in another country's civil war? just as in egypt, the syrians will handle their own problems.

sounds like you are setting up a hypothetical "24" scenario or something...

assad has been warned. he is a desperate man and he knows that an attack such as this is suicide. he will either be attacked in retaliation by an international force or he will be captured and tried for crimes against humanity, which if guilty carries the death penalty.

Thus when you google with saran you get an idea of the level of people this news comes from.

To date, there has not been any confirmed report of this. There are many assumptions. There are unconfirmed reports from an unconfirmed US official that chemicals are available for mixing.

Whilst non of this is confirmed, it would not be surprising at all that Assad has the capability and the will to do this.

With dubious reports that Syria is preparing its stockpile of chemical weapons for use now dominating US media coverage, the familiar menace of WMDs in the Middle East has been resurrected once again to haunt the American public and gin up support for military intervention.

First appearing in a report Sunday in the New York Times, the latest Syrian WMD scare surfaced with an assertion from an unnamed US official that the Syrian military had begun “some potential chemical weapon preparation.” The official went on to state that the US is “worried about what the [Syrian] military is doing.”

One day later, yet another unnamed American official, again citing classified intelligence, told Wired magazine’s Danger Room blog that, “Engineers working for the Assad regime in Syria have begun combining the two chemical precursors needed to weaponize sarin gas.”

“International observers,” the Danger Room report continued, “are now more worried than they’ve ever been that the Damascus government could use its nerve agent stockpile to slaughter its own people.”

Similar reports on Syria’s purported preparation of chemical weapons have subsequently proliferated throughout the US media. Yet, as McClatchy reported, despite the widely published claims of anonymous US officials, “no public evidence” has been offered by the administration to justify its amplified concerns. Nor, it might be added, has any explanation been offered as to why the Syrian regime would knowingly seek to provoke a foreign military intervention by actually using its chemical weapons.

Of course, the propagandizing on behalf of the US government by the loyal legion of stenographers in the elite American media has allowed the Obama administration to renew its threat of military intervention.

Speaking Monday at the National Defense University in Washington, President Obama warned that the use of chemical weapons by Syrian forces would result in “consequences” and that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad would be personally “held accountable” for their use. President Obama’s press secretary, Jay Carney, later went on to allude to a possible military intervention.

“We think it is important to prepare for all scenarios,” Carney said. “Contingency planning is the responsible thing to do.”

(US officials have previously stated that any effort to safeguard chemical weapons in Syria would require 75,000 troops.)

You have no clue to what you are saying! The innocent civilians have had enough of their totalitarian dictator and are fighting the REGIME. They are slowly winning and the leader, ASSAD, is loading his chemical weapons to kill them, cause Assad fears they will kill him! GOT IT? WOW

There is a such thing as violent evil men, that are in power, that suppress their population. Guess what, thats life and we have to deal with evil people!! This is one of those scenarios! You cant be passive here!

Dont you know that one drop of saran gas kills a person instantly and Assad has potential to kill tens of thousands of people in one minute! ONE MINUTE instantly 30-40k people! And the only response you type up is one of doubt? OK BUD you are clearly blind to reality!

Syria ousts Assad and becomes democratic.
Syria get to vote for whom ever they want to lead them.
    Syria hates Israel.

Third quarter, Syrians use their newly found Democracy to elect a leadership that plans to restore fundamentalist Islamic rule and declares Israel as an outlaw state that stole the land formerly known a Palestine... they partner with the Shi'ite majority neighbors on their Western flank, Iraq, to bolster support, since there are over a million Iraqis that fled their nation after the U.S. invasion/occupation in the early to late 2000s.
