Whittier tunnel is the coolest tunnel i've gone thru....2.5 miles of pure straight tunnel.

used to be only for trains...

but they redid the floor, so it can handle trains and cars....

As far as my favorite tunnel goes though I would have to say the Hershey Highway.

I prefer a good cave over a tunnel.

i enjoy a good smugglers' tunnel quite a lot actually. what a determined & ingenuitive group. some of these tunnels are very sophisticated; rails to move loads like a train, lighting, air ventilation systems, etc. while other tunnels may be small, compact & with no lighting... still, they are hard at work moving product, smuggling weapons & people.

life is good! life is a surprise & life is a hidden underground quagmire. tunnels helped the vietnamese win the the war. in the link below is a ghost caught on camera deep in a japanese tunnel while they were doing radiation tests or whatever.

there's one in Downingtown that's supposedly haunted called the Twin Tunnels. EeriePA magazine did an article on it about 5 or so years ago.

The Spiral Tunnels in Yoho National Park in BC, near Kicking Horse Pass, are a hundred year old series of tunnels on a super twisty track, and when a long train goes through them you can see the train doubling back on itself three times, going into and out of the mountain on different levels at the same time. It's pretty cool to see it in person; it looks like an optical illusion kind of.
