Question: 2000 Bootlegs

Hi All,

I'm not a big poster in the boards, but do regularly look over them a bit - more so in recent times as I have been trying to get my hands on a set of the 2000 bootlegs for a little while now. I made contact with a few people, but being in Australia has made it that little bit harder to get my hands on a set due to the logistics of postage.

Anyway, I recently managed to find myself a set and picked them up the reasonable price of (approx) $1100 USD. I almost keeled over when the guy handed them over and they were all mint - still wrapped in the plastic! I almost felt guilty taking them off him, and asked why he'd want to turn them over and it transpired that he and his wife had recently had their first baby so were clearing out cupboard space. Turns out she used to work for Sony, so they weren't ever really going to listen to them and he seemed genuinely happy to sell them to a fan of the band. Still can't believe my luck!

But anyway, I'm starting to waffle now... here is my question! I have been searching for these bad boys all this time because as a fan, I actually want to listen to them as I've only heard about 3 of them before. If I had picked them up and they were all in excellent condition but opened, I'd have no hesitation - however because they're sealed, I'm totally unsure if I want to open them now! I didn't buy them thinking I'd ever want to sell them down the track, but now I was hoping people with a better understanding of these matters (ie all of you!) would be able to tell me
a) are they something that is likely to appreciate "that much" over time in their condition considering how many are out there floating around; and
b) what the hell I should do with them?!?! (keep sealed or tear the buggers open!)

Obviously I bought them with the intention to listen to them, and I'm not in the business of getting stuff like this to turn over for a profit, but I guess times / situations can change (as evidenced by the amount of people that I see here are in the unfortunate position of having to sell up on hard times) and at $1100 they were a decent investment in the first place so perhaps I should treat them as such?

PLEASE HELP!!! They've been sitting on my desk for the past week starting at me, taunting me!

All opinions / advice appreciated, thanks :)

(Apologies if I've posted in the wrong section)

  • I say play them. I have a set as well and i love listening to them. If, for some crazy reason, you don't want to play them (why did you buy them?), the 2000 tour is pretty easily available via the web. so you could keep them sealed (why anyone buys music to look at is beyond me...) either way... congrats on your purchase!!!...

Oh man, tear those bad boys open and enjoy them over and over again. I'm salivating reading this post.

A side question - where are the best places to find 2000 2003 boots? I was very pleasantly surprised when I stopped by my local record store and they had abour 8 different boots from the 2000 tour (both Katowice shows, Cardiff, Milan, Verona, Stockholm, Atlanta, and Greensboro). Needless to say, I cleared them all out.

I'm assuming places like Amazon or of course on here? Bootlegs are my vice and I can never have enough of them - love having the physical hard copy CDs and would like to really start collecting the 2000 and 2003 boots.

Took me just over a year to complete the 2000 collection. Mainly buying from here and ebay. Some of the prices on Amazon are crazy. 2003 are harder to find, I'm halfway there with them. And they are more expensive than 2000's

I'm not big into ebay, but I found some on Amazon that of course were used boots, and I didn't think the price was overly bad - seemed pretty par for the course for the price I think I would find anywhere else. But yeah, there were a few on there where the price was a little outrageous, even for used copies.

Ian, did you just start with the 2000 set and get all of those before you started going after the 2003 set? Or did you kind of just start getting them all at once?
