I liked Live back in the day. I could really only take them in small doses, though. And I can't stand to hear that Lightning Crashes song one more time.

But!

I just saw Ed Kowalczyk, the singer from Live, has set out on his own (sounds like he and his former band mates are having fun suing the shit out of each other).

Don't know if there's any interest in this cat anymore, but I thought I'd share

http://edkowalczyk.com/tour-dates

Anyone seen him play? Worth a ticket? Worth picking up his solo cd?

  • I saw Live on a double bill with Counting Crows maybe a decade ago. They were freakin' awesome. Don't know about the new stuff by Ed or his solo show.
  • i saw him a few years back when he first started out solo. i really enjoyed it it was him doing live "classics" and some of his own stuff all the Live songs sounded really different done acoustically and solo. he was in a good mood told a few stories it was quite an intimate show with a storytellers vibe to it. hope this helps. i recommand seeing him

I listened to Throwing Copper a little tonight... Had forgotten how amazingly epic that entire album is... Especially "White, Discussion" ... Holy shit that's a good track!

Yes, worth a ticket if it is a reasonable price :) Saw him solo at a festival put on by a radio station at Merriweather in Columbia, MD around Sept 2010. We were pleasantly surprised.

I'm pretty sure Live's sound had alot to do with Mr. Kowalczyk. I would go see him if he were close to me definitely.

His solo album is ok. I liked the band, "the Gracious few", that the other guys in Live formed with Kevin Martin, and Sean Hennesey, of Candlebox more. Ed's solo cd is ok though. Haven't seen him live though.

I saw Ed Kowalczyk twice two years ago on his Open Wings Broken Strings tour as Art Alexakis opened up for him on the first leg and I was a huge Everclear fan. Leigh Nash from Sixpence none the richer (kiss me /one hit wonder) was the opening opening act. The second time I saw him it was at a resort in VT during a blizzard and Emerson Hart (Tonic) had Art's slot. The first show was great as they all sang songs together and Ed's voice was great. But the show during the blizzard was epic as there was only twenty of us there and they basically played for us in living room type setting. Emerson and Ed were drinking scotch during and after the show and they all came out and hung out with the small group of us. Ed signed the setlist for me and was clearly just a normal dude. HIs voice has not changed and he sounded great on all of the songs.

    Funny, I have a Live/blizzard story too.

The first time I saw Live was probably 1995-ish in Burlington, VT. There was a huge snow storm, and the drummer got stuck in a plane that couldn't land. So the band played a 95% acoustic show, along with some electric songs in the encore with a roadie filling in on drums. Great show (and the 2 times I have seen them since then they were quite good as well).

Apparently it's a famous show in Live fan land.

I saw live in the late 90s/early 00s maybe. I think it was touring for an album that was a few albums after throwing copper.

The show was pretty good though. I listened to throwing copper not to long ago. It still rocks.

I saw Ed do the entire Throwing Copper album last night.....just him and another dude on guitars....holy shit, it was good! They did all 14 tracks, left the stage and came back for maybe 7 more songs.

This is the 20th anniversary of Throwing Copper....as people have said, it was and is a stellar album. If you get a chance, see this show!

    sorry, man
but I don't dig on this Ed.
coolest thing I ever saw was Dennis Rodman throw this fucker into the front few rows during an encore of "Hanging Around" when Live was touring with Counting Crows. At least I think that happened. we were all pretty hammered.

I actually got a chance to see him perform in Glendale, AZ, last year during some fucked up festival called Liquid Sol... He played all of the Live songs you'd hope he'd play... It was kinda fun.

Ed K. was 22 or 23 when throwing copper came out....which is probably more mind blowing than Ed V. and the story of Ten.
