Professional Hoarding Poll

Hi gang,

I'm in publishing.

I've held onto every single magazine I've ever written for or edited.

I've got 11 years of magazines sitting on my bookshelves. It's a lot.

Question: Do I get rid of them and save room, eliminating clutter and killing this need to keep this stuff; or do I continue to collect it in hopes that some day I'll get wistful and want to look back on my "body of work" so to speak...?

Thoughts?

    Keep....

Or maybe clip articles and put them in a portfolio with the magazine cover

    I would say keep them.
  • Definitely keep them! I think 81 made an excellent suggestion.

    Can you scan them?

A friend I know does professional organizing and one of her best tips is to take photos of things (like your childrens' art projects) and then get rid of the thing and keep the photo.

I would still keep a hard copy though of your individual articles, just in case.

Keep, at least the ones you wrote. It's not hoarding when it's your work!

I subscribed to Musician magazine for several years and had boxes of them. When I came time to move I made the poor choice of clipping a few article and recycling the rest. I've often regretted getting rid of them as many are hard to come by these days. That was a great music magazine.

Since then, I've subscribe to Jack Rabid's excellent quarterly music magazine "The Big Takeover". I'll be smart this time and hang on to them. Lots of good stuff there!
