    A couple more notes.

    1. Glen tagged "Movin' On" with part of "Maybellene" by Chuck Berry

    2. Ed never told us what he "figured out" about "You've Got To Hide Your Love Away" He mentioned before the song that he had figured something out about it and would tell us after he played it yet I don't think he ever did. Way to leave us hangin' Ed.

You're right, I forgot about #2. I did think about it right after the song, but not for long.

And I agree with all about the crazy drunk people. I thought the hecklers were fairly tame, but the people stumbling to the front were frustrating. The only one that really annoyed me was the guy who walked all the way down center aisle and stood directly in front of Ed taking pics with his flip phone through all of Long Nights. I love seeing that song live, and the guy was a huge distraction.

Regardless, I was thrilled to be there, loved the performances, was happy with my seats. AND i got to meet some of the cool people from here! Now I just wish I was going to Florida.
    I win.

Well...after reading all this...I think we have a better understanding of why the band hasn't played Memphis properly since 2000.

I think Ed's personal security guy would be a big help in situations like this. I saw him really getting down on someone at the El Paso show for taking video. He could haul out those disruptive drunks in no time at all!

Had a great time. Sorry a few drunks kept going to the bathroom over and over again, standing, screaming, videoing with their cell phone, fighting down the aisle during the whole show. I just happened to be sitting in an unlucky spot on an aisle seat. Sorry the people in front us from NY came all the way to have it somewhat ruined to a few idiots. One guy brought his daughter in front of us and they left early because of the bahavior. Stupid Eddie Vedder shoulder blade tattoo girl in front of us kept blocking our view by standing and dancing while everyone else in the venue was seated. Also kept blocking our view with her cell phone raised in the air videoing. The guy from NY asked the usher to take care of her as he couldn't see the 1st 2 songs because of her cell phone camera way up in the air. He asked her again towards the end to "Shh' during Sleepless Nights (no mics - quiet duet) and she responded with "F U Ahole" - that didn't go over well with the fed up people around us. She also wore MJ sparkle gloves on her wrists :)
Also had a big fight break out in the aisle - two big boys slinging each other around the aisle. Almost hit my wife and I - I thought for sure a knife was going to come out. Security finally got there. Still had a great time - just lots of distractions.

I witnessed this woman's behavior outside the venue before the show and hoped she was not sitting anywhere near me. She wasn't, and I had a fantastic time. Love the poster too!

This was Ed #5 for me. As far as the D-bag quotient, I'd say it was in the lower percentage of the shows I've seen.
Really the endless drunks going to the bathroom was far worse. I really don't understand how you can pay $80 bucks for a ticket then drop another 50 getting shit faced only to have to piss all night. Hell the show was a block from Beale Street and got out at 11. Party your face off after!!

Great show though and Glen brought it as always, the Elvis moves at the end won it for me.

This was also EV #5 for me and I thought it was BY FAR the best crowd I've seen at his shows. There was minimal yelling and I thought everyone was very respectful. I was shocked to see so many bad experiences on here. I must have lucked up with my seat location or something b/c I don't have one negative thing to say about the night. It was incredible.

Glen's Elvis moves were excellent. What a cool guy. They're a great combo.
  • I drove down from St. Louis for this show. It was my first time in Memphis & I want to say it is a great city! I had such a fun day around town before the show.

Ten Club tickets got me 11th row-a wonderful surprise! Thank you Ten Club!

Glen was inspiring, as always. I saw his show in STL about 2 months ago-if you liked him opening for Eddie, you will LOVE him playing with the Frames.

Eddie playing "Good Woman" was my personal highlight. It was all great. I enjoyed talking to the Memphis couple in front of us. It always enhances the show when you can experience it with kindred music lovers!

I also loved that the tour was dedicated Christopher Hitchens. When Eddie talked about him during the show he said something like this: "if you plant yourself in his (Hitchens) thoughts and ideas you will grow a strong tree." It was very poetic and in my opinion true.

It was special to hear Eddie talk about the release of the West Memphis Three. He said it was one of the greatest days of his life. The entire crowd gave a standing ovation to Jessie Misskelley, who was in the audience.

Overall, it was a very unique and inspiring concert. Thanking the cosmos for bringing all these elements together to create a wonderful experience.
  • I was at this show. The drunk girl was right behind me and my wife and almost ruined the show for us. She did the redneck nascar "howl" between every song and her and the boyfriend were chatting between every song to the point where we missed alot of what Eddie was saying. Add also her tone deaf ass singing loudly to the songs. And lighting up several rows with her stupid iPhone. Funny story though. At one point towards the end of the show she dropped her phone and it separated into several pieces. She leaned over to us during the show to ask us to help her find it. I said I didn't have a light. Anyway, my wife did find the back piece which we decided to keep. ;) After the show, I threw it in the trash. We felt kind of bad for doing this but I figure it's alittle karma for her being a total annoying disrespectful bitch throughout the whole show.

Anyway, the highlight of the show was the WM3 part with the standing ovation for Jessie. I almost got alittle teary-eyed. I made my way over to him at the end of the show and got to shake his hand and wish him well.

Also, did anyone meet Eddie after in the Orpheum parking lot? I was the very last one in line and got to speak to him briefly but my wife didn't have time to snap a picture. I was wondering if anyone got any photos from his exit.

I was at the Memphis show as well and thought I'd share a couple of thoughts. This was my first Ed show and it was so incredible! I kinda knew what to expect from reading the forums and seeing the setlists but it doesn't convey the specialness of the performance. I was completely blown away, first by Glen and then Ed. I wish I could find a better word to describe the show but I keep coming back to special as the best way to describe it. It truly was like sitting right there by Ed with a small circle of friends listening to a a phenomenal performance by a friend. I can't decide which song was my favorite but his duets with Glen were absolutely amazing. The highlights, though for me, were Immortality, Sleepless Nights, I'm One and Arc. I wish that I was able to attend more shows on this tour but you can guarantee that the next time Ed goes solo I'm there.

I will comment a bit about the crowd. Overall, most things were minor annoyances like the constant picture taking and blue screens. I was sitting in the Mezzanine looking down on the stage so it was really annoying to have my attention constantly distracted because some people can't stand to not have a picture. I understand taking one but it was the same people over and over taking pictures and just being generally obnoxious and selfish. I wasn't near the fight so I couldn't see what happened but we heard the scuffle up where we were sitting so I would imagine that it was pretty bad if you were near it. The only thing that really pissed me off was during Sleepless Nights some drunk douche kept singing at the top of his lungs and no matter how many times we shh'ed him he kept at it. I really don't understand why people think everything should be about them. This was not a PJ show in which everyone is loud and singing along. If you can't handle your alcohol then have the sense to stay out of a show like this. All in all these were minor annoyances and I will go again as many times as I can!

One final thought about the merch stand. I got to the venue at 2:30 just to hang out for a bit to see Ed before he went in for soundcheck. I got to spend some time with other awesome fans waiting as well. I ended up staying until 4:30 and saw Ed as he got off his tour bus. Unfortunately, he didn't come say hi but he did wave and signed some stuff for some fans which was totally cool. After he went inside, I decided to check out the merch stand so I could get my stuff before the show. They only had the Memphis shirt and I didn't really like the design so I decided to wait and get a different shirt when I came back. Only one woman's design (tank top, ugh) and they were already sold out of the size S men's shirts. I was really disappointed at how unprepared they were with merch especially after arriving at 4:30 to avoid this very problem. All in all, Memphis was great, the fans were great and the show was one of my most memorable.
Are we getting something out of this all-encompassing trip?

Seems my preconceptions are what should have been burned...

    I AM MINE
  • I thought it was by far the best crowd I've seen at a show, minimal shout outs. When Glen and Ed did the duet with no mics, you couldn't hear a peep from the crowd.

Ed said he'll "be back with the boys". I'm counting on it!
  • We had the most incredible night! We were the couple that Eddie Vedder dedicated "Can't Help Falling in Love" to! :D I had given a donation for the E.B. foundation ( Check it out- http://www.ebkids.org/)
I wrote a quick note thanking him for his music, for all that he has done with that foundation, and for the WM3. I gave $20, and apologized that it couldn't be more. I explained that I'm a teacher and my husband is a turtle biologist, so we don't have a lot of extra cash, but we would continue to give as we can. I said we'd love to hear our song, "Can't Help Falling in Love". I thanked him again, and said see you in Memphis. We had waited before the show to meet him in Tulsa, but there was such a big crowd by the time he got there, he pretty much just waved as he walked in. So, I gave the donation to his tour manager in Tulsa, not expecting him to ever see it. Then in Memphis, he told the whole story about us and our donation on stage! Yes, I cried like a baby! Lol  I still can't believe that happened. We were able to meet him and shake his hand after the show too. Best night of my life!! What made the night even better was that we were able to get front row seats! We just checked at the box office and they were available. It was all the way off to the side, but a perfect view. The night could not have been more perfect. So happy right now!!
  • I've already started a thread about this, but I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask here either. I was fortunate enough to be up front-to the right of the two ladies who gave Ed the money in the envelope(very sweet). I tossed Ed my favorite hat towards end of show and he put it on and wore it across the stage. I was wondering if anyone on here happened to get a pic of him with the hat on. If I can get a pic, I plan to have it framed with the show poster and the guitar pic I ended up with. On another note, can anyone think of anything more magical than watching Ed perform solo? I sure can't.

  • I actually can't think of anything more magical than seeing Eddie perform solo! I was fortunate enough to see some of his solo shows in the southwest, and I felt like the luckiest person on the face of the earth. :D I was totally mesmerized, and I hope to someday see him perform solo again!

Hope you can find someone who took a pic of EV in the hat you tossed up to him, fsunoles30!

Yeah, I'm sorry, but people seriously need to check their priorities. I had an aisle seat, and therefore was constantly distracted by people getting up to refill their drinks. There was not one song where at least two different people were getting up to go get drinks. (During one song I lost count after 10 people were getting up and coming back in my aisle.) Do these people actually like music, or just getting drunk? It makes me wish these venues didn't serve alcohol at all. It would maybe be safer, at least. I saw part of the scuffle in the back when the two guys started going at each other and a fan screamed, "SECURITY!" right at the beginning of "Society."

If fans can't drink responsibly, they give up their right to be served alcohol at all, IMO. The show was fantastic, and Eddie was on fire, but my night will be marred from the audience distractions. How hard is it to stay in your seat and enjoy the fucking music? I mean, I wasn't close and I didn't leave my seat once--because I would rather enjoy the concert than get wasted! I'm probably alone in this, but I would be relieved if people at least had a drink limit.

    *End rant*

We saw that chick in the lobby, the tattoo gave us a good laugh. I don't know, but I think I would be freaked out if a stranger tattooed my face on their body.

I had a great time at my first EV solo show. The show was awesome and I loved seeing and experiencing Eddie solo on stage and meeting some fellow tenclubbers. It was a wonderful way to celebrate our wedding and I can't wait to see Ed solo again some day :)

But I also was annoyed with people screaming shit at absolutely inappropriate moments just to attract attention and especially by the extensive use of cameras and phones :| One guy just came to the front and stood there with his phone almost in Ed's face, then he walked to the other side of the stage and did the same thing there as well. I don't get why the no camera / no camera phone policy at these shows is not followed more strictly. Why can't people simply sit down and enjoy the show? It is disrespectful not only to the other people in the audience but also to the artist himself.
  • Went to the Memphis show, 1st of tour (going to Ft. Lauderdale 2 also). Thought the venue was nice, great show! We were in the upper upper balcony and had no idea there had been any fights/scuffles! Crowd seemed okay to us (other than two drunk ladies behind us, who I think thought Eddie was going to bang them after the show if they yelled at him loud enough). Only thing I noticed was TONS of people taking flash pictures/video taping/taking pictures (we were front row, so we could see next balcony & half the main floor), even though the lady came out before Eddie took the stage and told people not to do it. One guy actually walked down the main aisle, stood there in the aisle the whole song and recorded it on his phone! So much for no video/pics!

We saw that dude. I cannot believed that security did not grab him. I found him creepy. I was close enough to tell that he was not only recording half of the time he was standing there, but he was also just standing right in front of Ed staring at him for what seemed like an eternity to me. He gets a 10 on my creep-o-meter. Weird.

That really struck me too :) . Ed said "If you plant your brain in a pot of Christopher Hitchens then you'll grow a strong tree."

:D Fantastic show :D . I was supposed to take my 8YO son who bailed at the last minute so my wife filled in and we wound up having a fantastic date night. We were fortunate to have good seats and missed the crowd drama (ignorance was indeed bliss). Only thing I'd change would have been more time to meet 10C'ers. Highlights included the Ed/Glen Elvis duet, Immortality (!!!), stars on command, the aforementioned shoutout to Hitchens, Guaranteed (can't hear it too many times :) ), Loud Uke, Pump Organ (Neil Young, what?), Sleepless nights busking style, and Arc. Ed's voice sounded tight. The setlist was excellent. We got to see two of the best at their craft share the stage. And the poster was off the charts cool....classy like Matt Cameron ;) . I really enjoyed seeing how Ed's solo show has evolved....keeps getting mo betta.
  • Thank you for a great review of this amazing show. The drunk getting kicked out was a real low point. I know I am getting old, but maybe alcohol is not a good idea for these shows? People are really unable to keep it together these days. So absurd.
