Hey all,

I have really been digging the new RNDM album, so I wanted to check out some of Joseph Arthur's albums, what would you reccommend?

Thanks.

You can't really go wrong with 'The Graduation Ceremony' for a start. It's one of my favourite albums of the last few years.

If you wanted to get hold of some free stuff before committing there's a free six song sampler on Joseph's website which is a good place to start:
    http://www.josepharthur.com/news/index.htm

If you scroll down to 10-05-2010 on the News page you'll find the link (it says Limited Time but I'm pretty sure it's still available) It includes "In The Sun" which is probably the most widely-known of his tracks.

'Redemption City', Joseph's phenomenal double album from earlier this year is also still available as a free download on his site:
    http://www.josepharthur.com/2012/?page_id=400

    Enjoy! :)
    “Do not postpone happiness”
    (Jeff Tweedy, Sydney 2007)

“Put yer good money on the sunrise”
    (Tim Rogers)
  • I would also recommend to maybe download some of his liveshows from his website, 5$ a piece I think.

Joseph is so much better live than on record in my opinion. Don't get me wrong, I love his records but live acoustic with them loopstations? Oh, man... :o

I love Redemption's Son. You've probably heard "Honey in the Moon," which I never get tired of listening to.

They played "Can't Exist" from Our Shadow's Will Remain at the RNDM Bowery Ballroom show. Really dig that album too. LOVE "Echo Park."

I too love Redemption Son, especially the song Redemption Son.
And like stated above, i prefer the solo acoustic versions of most of his songs...

thanks for the recommendations everyone!

Goldrush- thanks for the link, don't think it's up as a free download anymore though. I'll I get is a blank page after clicking download pt1 mp3.
But thank you very much I appreciate it. 8-)
I appreciate everyone's help with suggesting albums. I think I'll listen on itunes to some samples then go get a few albums from there. Have a couple gif tcards I need to use. Those are always great for new artists to check out.

I can't say any of his albums aren't awesome. I am officially obsessed with his music! I cannot get enough right now, which is good, because he has a LOT of music to choose from! My favorite album at the moment in Nuclear Daydream (which I got on vinyl from Sweden; hard to find! it is gorgeous, one red disc, one orange), but Graduation Ceremony and Redemption City and Come to Where I'm From are all great too. Redemption City has a lot of near-spoken-word, and sounds a bit more like electronica than the other albums, but it is still amazing; just different. Plus the vinyl is a fairly spectacular red, 3 discs. 8-) All of his vinyl sounds incredible. I said in another thread that his vinyl sounds better than any other vinyl that I own as far as sound quality goes.

Definitely late to the party, but I'm just starting to get into Joseph Arthur's solo stuff. I've really been missing out. Just got Graduation Ceremony, and it's fantastic. Have a couple more albums on the way and can't wait for them to get here.

Does anyone have the Ballad of Boogie Christ parts 1 and 2? How are they?

No Chicago dates, but he was apparently here last month. So, that's not a surprise.
