Show Set List

01. Can’t Keep
02. Sleeping By Myself
03. Without You
04. Goodbye

(while playing, “One more sad one. Get the depressing stuff out of the way early.” Halfway through the song Ed gets lost and stops playing. “Sometimes when you get emotionally involved is when you fuck up. Where are Mike McCready, Stone Gossard, Jeff Ament and Matt Cameron when you need ‘em?”)

(Ed mentions the terrible traffic going from Dallas to San Antonio. He was concerned that he was going to have an “Axl Rose” moment and not make it until 10:30. He talks about seeing police lights and thinking of Snoop Dog, Willie Nelson and Fiona Apple getting pulled over. “It is too bad they didn’t all get pulled over at the same time. That would have been quite the collaboration.” He says there is no pot on his bus. He is waiting until he gets back to Seattle where pot is legal. He jokes about rolling a huge joint and walking his dog. He plans on getting saddle bags for the dog so he can share with anyone he meets. He also thanks the audience for making it to the show even though it had to be rescheduled.)

05. You're True

(Ed tells a story about going to his guitar teacher when he was about 16 and meeting Danny Kortchmar. Ed, his teacher and Danny played some Jackson Browne songs and some old blues songs. Danny produced a cigarette case with ten perfectly rolled joints. When the joint was passed to Ed he realized that he needed to work as hard as he could to become a professional musician. Not because he wanted to be a great guitar player but because Danny had the best weed Ed ever had.)

06. I Am Mine
07. Sunset Drive (NEW SONG inspired by his bus ride into San Antonio and the beautiful Texas sunset. He says that a text from Glen, in a car behind his bus, inspired the chorus. ‘San Antone’ (sic) and the show he is going to play are referenced several times)

08. Dead Man
09. Wishlist

(Ed says “this next song was a request.” which causes the audience to start shouting songs at at him. He says, “No, this WAS a request, not ‘I am taking requests or annoy the guy on stage by shouting songs. It was a request by someone I met yesterday.” At this point a woman screams incoherently. Ed asks if she is okay, “can someone get her a Xanax?”

Ed talks about how having children has changed the way he writes songs. He wants to spend as much time with his girls as he can so he finds that he writes songs more quickly. The next song he wrote when his wife and daughters went out to lunch for an hour. He finished in 51 minutes and spent the next nine wondering when they were going to come back because he missed them.)

10. Gone

(Ed notes he has written a number of songs about “getting outta there. Just going.” That carry’s over into writing songs for “Into The Wild”)

11. Far Behind
12. Guaranteed

(Ed praises the sound in the room and mixer Kevin McKenzie. “The guy that has been doing Front Of House for a long time, Greg Nelson, is at home. Greg is home because he and his wife just had their first child, Lucy Pearl.” He continues “So Nelly, I will see you in Tulsa in two days? I am kidding! What am I? Papa John’s here? Let’s dedicate this one to Lucy Pearl.”)

13. Rise-(Dedicated to Lucy Pearl Nelson. The daughter of friend and Front Of House Engineer Greg “Nelly” Nelson)
14. Long Nights w/ Glen Hansard

(After a long string of raucous, guttural screaming of “Eddie” over and over Ed asks if there are any cowboys out there that can rope whatever is making that noise?”)

15. Her Majesty-(Lennon, McCartney)
16. You’ve Got To Hide Your Love Away-(Lennon, McCartney)
17. Man Of The Hour
18. Elderly Woman Behind The Counter In A Small Town
19. Lukin
20. Porch

Encore Break 1

(“We lucked out, we picked the right place to end our tour through Texas. I spoke to Jeff Ament today who is out with RNDM. We are passing each other like two satellites. It sure is great to be in a band with your best friends. It’s good to be back in San Antonio. We have been away for nine years which is eight too many.” Ed says he wants to dedicate the next song to someone who has been a big supporter, Mr. Brent Barry. Brent has some guests that are recently married. Brent switched seats with them so they could be up front. Ed dedicates the next song to the newlyweds.

21. Just Breathe
22. Pump Organ (so far unnamed song that he occasionally plays live with the working title ‘pump organ’. This version has lyrics rather than wordless singing. melody and arrangement get fine tuned every time it is played)

22. I’m One-(Townshend)

(Ed talks about seeing bad behavior in people in general and parents and how that gives you an example of how not to behave. He relates a story about seeing a woman at left turn light just shouting and screaming. He is so happy he “isn’t that person. To be that worked up over being held up at light is so insignificant. It applies to this next song which is about a traffic accident. Don’t be in such a rush, we all get there eventually, and by that I mean death. Don’t rush towards it.”)

23. Last Kiss-(Cochran)
24. Unthought Known
25. Society w/ Glen Hansard-(Hannan)
26. Sleepless Nights w/ Glen Hansard-(Bryant, Bryant) (busking style-no mics or PA)
27. Falling Slowly w/ Glen Hansard-(Hansard, Irglová)
28. Parting Ways

Encore Break 2

(Ed invites an active duty soldier named David who is going to Afghanistan soon up on stage to perform Hard Sun with him and Glen)

29. Hard Sun w/ Glen Hansard and David-(Peterson)
30. Dream A Little Dream-(Khan, Schwandt, Andree)

Glen Hansard Set List

01. Leave
02. Pennies In The Fountain

(Glen says, “We just got here, literally 5 minutes ago. We are sorry we didn’t get a chance to walk around the city. We thought we would have a nice leisurely drive from Dallas, but you guys, you guys don’t drive very well. There were two terrible accidents getting here. It just looked like some stupid truck driving moron not watching where he was going....I mean think about that. There were people being cut out of their cars just because some idiot was going too fast and can’t drive....”)

03. Love, Don’t Leave Me Waiting/Respect-(Redding)
04. This Gift (breaks string keeps singing and switches guitars)
05. I Was Born To Hold You In These Arms
06. Low Rising
07. Astral Weeks-(Van Morrison)/Smile-(Ament, Vedder)
Falling down,...not staying down

Great show. My 5th and final of the tour. I could easily do 5 more.

Now we need the band back in Texas!!!
This show, another show, a show here and a show there.
  • Very LOUD and appreciative crowd tonight.

My fourth show this tour, 10th in three tours. (Vegas 1 and 2, Albuquerque and San Antonio)

The whole experience has evolved since my first show in Toronto 2008.
The city and venue really makes a difference to help stand out every show from one another.
The more traditional theatres like Massey Hall in Toronto, The Fox in Detroit and The Chicago Theatre are highlights in terms of atmosphere for me but Benaroya Hall, the Pearl at the Palms and Lila Cockrell Theatre
have had amazing sound quality. Albuquerque was the odd show for sure but Ed was in a hell of a chatty mood because of the election.

Thanks again to the fellow board members who helped me out with tickets.
Cheers to the new friends I met on the road.

Next scheduled show for me will be Chile Lollapalooza.

Who did the poster for this show?

    Thanks

My sixth and final show of the tour (Austin 1 - San Antonio) and boy was it EPIC!! I got to hear some songs I'd never experienced live before, even on this tour. Dead Man, Gone!! I had been hoping to hear Ed do a Who song and I finally got it!! Also, I'd gotten a little tired of Last Kiss over the years and hadn't heard it in a while, but this time it was awesome.

But not only was the show super cool, but also my overall experience following this tour was great. It's the first time I'd ever done anything like this. Especially for the SA show, I got to hang out with some really cool people waiting in line for the signed posters and then figuring out where to wait for Ed's bus to arrive before the show. If y'all are reading this, I hope you all had a great a time as I did.

so jealous!! I am dying to hear live, intimate versions of Gone and I'm One. So wishing I lived in San Antonio!
It's nice to be nice to the nice.

Sounds like a great show. We were thinking about driving to San Antonio for the Friday show. But we didn't really want to drive down 35 on Friday - it's always that bad, Sorry, Ed and Glenn and company got stuck in it. We really need that high speed rail they keep talking about
  • Would love to have heard Gone, I'm One and Ed's new song! Praying for the boot release! :D
    "A beacon on dry land"
  • Setlist-wise, I think I preferred the two Austin shows, but who am I to quibble? I could listen to this guy sing the phone book. Hell, I would pay money to hear Ed give a four-hour lecture on the history of the Ottoman Empire.
everybody wants the most they can possibly get
for the least they could possibly do
  • I was there last nite, and I was blown away !!! It was AWESOME!!! Besides, I had been wanting to hear MAn of The Hour live forever... and ... my dream came true.

Truly great show, worth the wait since April when it was initially meant to be.

Will save up for a next opportunity to catch him solo again!!!!

    Just Loved the whole experience...

PLUS the new song he wrote on his way there and he sang it for us!!!

Maybe it was the beer beforehand, but I heard him say something about shooting cattle or something in reference to the ones making noise? Probably the beer. I unfortunately got stuck in front of the guy screaming Eddie every ten seconds and him "requesting" Enter Sandman on repeat... until he finally stopped. Loved the show and the setlist.

Yeah, he definitely said something about if an animal was making that sound a cowboy or rancher would put it down or shooting it.

It was cool. He had to start and stop a couple times to get the lyrics right. Felt like getting our own version of Santa Cruz.

Not sure which one you are, but I was there for the poster and then part of the gang and waited around for hours for the bus to show up. (Josh wearing the EV hoodie). It was a blast, I was on my own at that show, but it's always easy to find new friends!

Show was great, hearing the song he wrote while stuck in traffic was awesome, especially since we were waiting around forever for him to show up and now we know why he was so late! Hearing "Gone" solo was probably the highlight for me along with "I Am Mine" which is juts a personal favorite of mine. I went to the Dallas and San Antonio shows and although I personally liked the set better in Dallas I thought the San Antonio crowd was much much better and the theater sounded better too. You could tell Ed really enjoyed himself this night and appreciated the enthusiasm of the crowd!

  • It was all amazing but will hit my personal highlights. Glen Hansard was rockin' his set to begin the show. Maybe the trip down the hellacious I35 added to his passionate performance. Anyway, never seen anyone jammin a song and switch out guitars in the middle and never miss a beat or slow down. He put it all out there. Breaking strings like mad.

Eddie's lovely opening Uke songs were anything but sad or depressing, as he stated. We felt privileged to enjoy an original, freshly composed song about the Sunset Drive into San Antone. All because they were running late, but maybe there's a purpose to all things.

I Am Mine and Long Nights were phenomenal. Eddie's voice seemed to resonate in that theater. Parting Ways was big and haunting and his heavy application of the kick drum was vibrating the seats. Porch, naturally great. His interaction with the crowd was funny and his stories were great. Especially about getting home and walking with his (saddle-bagged) dog.

The Pump Organ song was cool and intimate. The busking duo with Glen was charming. After Hard Sun, the crowd beckoned for more and he delivered with one last song to send us on our way.

I saw him in Austin last Friday also and both his performances were friendly and loose. A great time was had by all. Even the drunk and obnoxious add to the vibe. Hope we will see Eddie and his friends back soon. For the crew - next time take the lovely Hwy 281 through the Texas Hill Country. Maybe Ed will get a song out of it as well.

Agree about Glen. Out of the 5 shows I saw he was definitely rocking out and feeling it the most in SA.

  • The last time I was able to experience PJ/EV live was September of 98. The military has had me bouncing around the world and I have missed many of their concerts by mere months or weeks of being in the area. I finally got the timing right and was able to attend this performance. It was a long time coming and a night I will never forget. Thank you Eddie, look forward to seeing you and the guys soon!
