The first legit-looking phony 2013 Coachella line-up poster

THIS IS NOT THE CONFIRMED LINE-UP..besides Sigur Ros, there is a chance none of the bands listed will be on the real line-up!

It is just a mock lineup, however I love that Jawbreaker is listed!

Not sure if Stone Roses would accept being 3rd-billed

Would be cool to see NIN play again, but I am guessing The Killers, and hopefully PJ, as headliners!

Yeah, as much as I love Flea and Thom Yorke (and the show they played for "The Eraser" in '09 was amazing), I don't see them in a headliner's spot with 1 album under their belts and a new one forthcoming. Of course, the Friday night "headliner" in recent years has gone on second to last as it's been a DJ that closes out the main stage that night (Chem Bros, Swedish House Mafia, etc).

Would love to see QOTSA this year in any spot. They are a band that I'd make the effort to see on their own though. All the news surrounding the new album (Grohl on drums, Reznor contributing again) has me eagerly anticipated that release!

    Love it

But Come on Miles Davis has to be a headliner right? Or just one below.

Hell I rather see Miles Davis than the beatles (tar feather stone me whatever the man was from another planet good)

the first 2 de-facto Coachella confirmations:

    Nick Cave
    Sigur Ros

based on shows being announced in San Diego/San Francisco

While they haven't released tour dates for the new year, I recently saw Japandroids in LA and the singer mentioned how they wouldn't be back to LA for a while but that they might come near here, which I guess people took as a Coachella hint.

I'd also like to see The Joy Formidable play. I believe they played in '11 but I missed their set. They have a new album coming out early in the new year and would make sense to be touring in support of it at that time.

Still most intrigued by who the headliners would be to anchor the lineup.

good point, but I am not sure they'd have them play consecutive years, especially since they haven't really surgered in popularity, etc.

Eric Clapton tour has no west coast dates, and it ends the day before the sunday of weekend #1

His NY shows feature many well known guitar players....perhaps they bring the show to Coachella?

That would be my guess, as the bands that are signed to play Coachella are precluded from playing within a certain radius, generally Southern California, in the months leading up to the festival. AZ might be a likely destination in the week between Coachella sets. However, they did just play LA in August as they came through CA after Outside Lands.

i despise those writers... AZ would get some pretty kick ass shows before or after the big gig in indio...

i never have the time, money, patience or stamina to be there...

So much excitement for a band with one well-known song. I wonder how high they will be on the lineup?

    2nd line, I'd guess if that's a big reunion they're booking.

Grizzly Bear's in. Just released US Dates and are playing Big Sur the week in between.

I wonder who the fall-back headliner is to replace the Stones......Tool, RHCP, Killers, Tom Petty, Mumford?

Eric Clapton has his tour going on, but not sure if he is Coachella-ish. Perhaps SoundCity with a few morebigwigs from the movie?
  • kasedougkasedoug Posts: 2,953
RHCP is ending their tour in March, so it could make sense. As much as I love them, I don't think I'd want to see their standard hour and a half set as a Coachella headliner. I'd want somebody who's really going to bring the house down.

Clapton would be cool if he did the Crossroads thing with a bunch of other guitarists. Who else is supposed to headline besides the Stones? Lineup has to be imminent with all of these smaller bands basically self-confirming.

It is exciting. I try to go every year, as it's only two hours away. Just a matter of finding people to go with as the lineup is usually strong every year. Some people will complain about the headliners but I find that it's all in the under card bands. That's what truly makes the festival.

    My ramblings:

    Great lineup

    Friday is amazing!
Stone Roses Blur Grinderman Lou Reed J-5 BOH Tegan & Sara How to Destroy Angels(trent Reznor & wife). Sparks Modest Mouse all on the same day! Sparks will be fun!

Excited for OMD and The Selecter......Biffy Clyro, Spiritualized, Cafe Tecuba, Dead Can Dance, Nick Cave (playing with both his bands on different days) and The Three O'clock

I guess someone answered the phone at The RHCP's agent's office.....guessing Mr.Tollette made other calls first.
I imagine they had to go with a reliable fallback headliner. Violent Femmes seem a bit out of place

Not sure if I like the Sunday RHCP, Social D and Vampire Weekend 3some of headliners.....way too main stream.
  • kasedougkasedoug Posts: 2,953
Exactly what I love about Coachella: the diversity.

There's something for everybody as I'm excited about almost an entirely different lineup.

Friday: Blur, Modest Mouse, Local Natives, Alt-J, and How to Destroy Angels (who nobody's seen) are bands I've never seen before that I'm looking forward too (Stone Roses too). Also like Band of Horses, YYYs, Japandroids, Divine Fits, Of Monsters and Men, and J5.

Saturday: Phoenix, the xx, Sigur Ros (missed them at OSL), New Order, Descendents, and Reignwolf will be new on me. I know I'm supposed to be stoked on Postal Service's reunion but I'm not all that excited. Others I'll see again are Grizzly Bear, Yeasayer, Portugal. The Man.

Sunday: Vampire Weekend, Lumineers, Father John Misty (who I've now missed at a couple fests), Thee Oh Sees (caught less than 10 min of them at OSL) and Tanlines. This pains me a little to say, because they're one of my all-time favorite bands, but I wasn't expecting RHCP. However, I'll still enjoy seeing them and Social D (I've seen them a bunch but passing on their current HOB run). Just saw Airborne Toxic Event for the first time last night at the Mayan, and I have to say I was impressed. Looking forward to Tame Impala now that I'm more familiar after OSL, Smith Westerns, and really excited about Cloud Nothings. I've seen them twice and they were one of my favorites at FYF.
