I must say, I'm especially impressed with Doom and Gloom. It's hard to believe that a group with members pushing 70 can put out something that sounds current and also has that classic stones feel to it. I'm not as big of a fan of One More Shot, but its still pretty good. What do you guys think?

There's Pearl Jam, The Rolling Stones, Chuck Berry, Robert Johnson......and then everybody else.

Best stuff in a long while. Except for the last album ofcourse. I hope they "retire" as old bluesman. I can see them up there in rocking chairs.....belting it out.....returning to their roots. I think this would be perfect for a Beggars Banquet tour which was never properly toured. The majority of those songs would fit perfect for that setting and it would be interesting to hear the couple of heavy ones stripped down.

And close each show with just Mick and Keith playing Prodigal Son....I like it!

  • I have to agree, I was really impressed with Doom and Gloom. Its pretty incredible what thy have acomplished. Deffinitely have to try and catch them on their 50th anniversary tour even though I'm sure tix prices will be insane. They're not gonna be doing this much longer so gotta catch them while you can. 50years and still Rocking! 8-)

They're OK. Better than they have to be. Certainly better than the new material they included on 40 Licks. I prefer Doom And Gloom over One More Shot, One More Shot sounds WAY too much like Take It So Hard from Keith's "Talk Is Cheap" album. I liked them enough to order Grrr, actually ordered the Deluxe Box Set, but I couldn't bring myself to buy the Super Deluxe box, as much as I'd like that IBC demos CD, and the BBC Sessions 7-inch (though I suspect we'll be getting a complete BBC Sessions album sometime in the future) I really can't justify paying the price, especially after all the box sets I've bought recently.

Doom And Gloom didn't do much for me at first, seemed kind of generic, but it's one of those "driving songs", to me at least. Sounds great in the car.

Blah. There is nothing they've done since the 70's that moves me.

ohhh... that is a good album. I see that's from 1981. well, anything from that early in the 80's is pretty much from the 70's.

Also, most of the songs are from the 70's. It was a house cleaning album, getting out bunch of songs they had already written. Almost all of them are from the 70's, some were re-recorded or worked on in the sessions, but some were just unused tracks added to the album. Mostly the songs came from the Some Girls, Black And Blue, and Emotional Rescue (released in '80 but recorded in 78-79) sessions. Tops and Waiting On A Friend were actually recorded in 1972, and even has Mick Taylor playing on them. I believe only 2 tracks had been written for the album, I can't remember which two those were. I just remember reading about it over at IORR.
