Framing Posters?

Hello,
Was wondering if anyone could provide me with some info about framing some posters.
I have 2 or 3 posters (24x18) that i want to get framed and to preserve them and their quality. Can you tell me what is necesisary as far as type of glass & matting? I don't wan't anything crazy just a simple thin black frame and probably thick white matting.

Can anyone also give some kind of ballpark figure of what framing like this would cost??

Also is this unnecessary? Or should I just go out and get a couple of already made 24x18 poster frames from a craft store like micahels? Afterall I am not framing an original Picasso piece, it is just concert poster (I know they are more than that).

Thanks I appreciate any info that you can provide.

If you want to preserve them its recommend to frame them acid free

Matting glass depends if your in a bright sunny room or a darker one and there is also glass that brings out the colors better and filter the uv light to avoid the bleaching of the art :D

I have my posters framed by a frame shop with the above glass and acid free treatment and cost me by piece about 150 euro...Not cheap but they are Picasso worth to me

I have some that are in craft shop frames $60 and I have some that are from Frame Shops $300. I believe that any frame is better than being in the tubes. Good luck!

I use American Fram to frame all of my posters. I also always choose the acid free mounting board & acid free mats along with the uv protective non-glare plexiglas.

The plexiglas is nice because it is so much lighter than glass. American Frame is also a lot of the times a little cheaper because they will send you all of the parts and you put it together. It is very easy to do & could save you some money. They have several different style frames with a wide price range. Some of the more simple metal frames are inexpensive & are a good way to start. It's great to just get the posters in a frame. You can always change out the actual frame at a later time if you want also.

I hope this helps you out a little.

:) All this talk of framing posters has inspired me today... I'm off into town to treat myself to some mounts and frames. I have a few beauties I can't wait to put up on the wall :):)

I've had a couple posters mounted/framed at various art supply places/Michaels/etc, and they turned out great, however here is my new jam: I read somewhere on the forums about going to a Goodwill/Savers thrift store and just buying old frames for $5 to $10, then spray painting the frames black or whatever color you'd like.

I was skeptical, but since I've got like 20 posters I'd like to frame just sitting under a bed in my house, I thought it was time for a cheap solution :D . I was worried about how the spray painting would look, but it's smooth and honestly, you'd never know it was a cheap used frame! I can't believe how awesome this turned out, and REALLY couldn't believe that I did this for under $10.

If you're not looking to spend a ton and want to get those posters up, I highly suggest visiting a used clothing/thrift store and finding frames, do it yourself style! This has changed everything for me - now I can actually view and admire those PJ gig beauties throughout the house!

This is exactly what I do too, usually comes out to around $130 per frame. For posters that aren't as valuable I have just used a cheaper frame from someplace like Michaels and put some acid free paper behind it.

  • Thanks fo all the input! :D

I have been checking out americanframe.com seems like the way to go for quailty at a reasonable price.

One more question should I really be that concerned about UV protection? if their not going to be in direct sunlight, actually they probably wouldn't have any sunlight contact at all

I am still contentplating putting $50 posters in $120 or more for each frame? If I were to just get some regular poster frames and put acid free paper behind them how fast would they sart to deteriate/ how bad would it affect the poster? Just curious, definatley leaning toward going the americanframe.com route but don't really want to spend so much.

Thanks again for helping me out this.
