I always want to root for Bono and his efforts- he knows how to pick a good cause- but I'm never quite sure how to feel about stories like this. Thoughts?

Biden meets with U2 frontman Bono at White House

WASHINGTON (AP) — The White House says Vice President Joe Biden has met with U2 frontman Bono to discuss global development, AIDS and efforts to fight poverty.

The singer and activist has been a leading advocate for Africa, drawing attention to issues ranging from poverty and hunger to AIDS.

Spokesman Jay Carney joked that Bono and Jim Messina — President Barack Obama's campaign manager — were forming a new band. Messina also visited the White House on Tuesday. Carney says Obama did not meet with Bono.

    First thought upon just seeing the thread title (and damned if this stupidass trend of name combos has now seeped into my brain)...

    "Bido" :P

    Second thought, Jim Messina of Loggins & Messina? No such luck. I image-googled him and yes...just a bit creepy, at least in the photos I saw. Don't know what kind of character he has.

    Last, this seems benevolent enough to me. Not sure about Biden, but I think Bono's heart is in the right place.

    I agree that Bono's heart is in the right place. I for one think the same of Biden.

    Personally I very often support Bono's efforts- he often chooses very worthy causes. I'm mixed on U2's music- some are favorites, some I never listen to- but that's to be expected- and not really relevant here. The problem for me is Bono's ego bugs me a bit. I guess that shouldn't matter- as long as he is accomplishing good things.

    take a good look
    this could be the day
    hold my hand

    ok...well that ego you see is mostly an act...he got so much shit in the 80's for being too serious he decided to embrace the "rock star" persona...he said it was very freeing...however, in a lot of people's eyes he became a bigger douche :lol:

    as for meeting with crazy joe...well, as willie sutton said when asked why he robbed banks...because that's where the money is...bono goes to the people who can help get him what he wants

    I think this ego maniac needs to focus on fronting his overrated band rather than trying to play politician all the time.

    Lots of rumors floating around about U2 moving parts of their business out of Ireland to avoid paying taxes, while asking everyone else to pay more to give to the third world. Tough to tell whether there is any validity to these claims.
