Heading to the Memphis show next week, coming from Ohio. Any locals have good hotel recommendations close to the venue?

I have been creeping lately to see if there are any meetups pre/post show, so far haven't seen any. Why no love for Memphis? :?

  • I'm staying at a Marriott, but I have a family member that works for them so I get a discount, only reason I chose it. Never been to Memphis, looking forward to BBQ!

  • Sweet. BBQ is on my agenda while I'm there too! I was thinking of checking out the Neely's restaurant, but I haven't heard good things about it. You would think with a show on the Food Network it would be good but the comments on their website were harsh!
  • I hear Neely's, Blue City Cafe, and Rendezvous are the way to go. I know you are asking about hotels, but I'll probably spend more time eating than hanging in my hotel!

  • Nicest hotels are the Peabody and the Westin. Doubletree downtown is nice and the Marriott is not bad.

For BBQ, Rendesvous is really good. Corky's has a few places around town that are also very good. Neely's I thought was just OK. My favorite BBQ place is about 15 miles from downtown and called One and Only BBQ. Really small place but great ribs and a cheese and sausage plate that is second to noe.

Best food in Memphis (my opinion) is Gus's Fried Chicken. Go to the one on Mendenhall and there is Gibsons Donuts about 100 yards away. About 15 mins from downtown but you will not be disappointed. Best chicken and donuts you can ask for. For something a little lighter try Soul Fish cafe.
  • Awesome thanks for the recommendations. I was sad to see there wasn't going to be a wishlist pre-party fundraiser in Memphis.

I've checked out all those hotels and they look nice but it's all about the bottom $$$. Going to do more partying and eating than sleeping soooo..... Heck with all your food recommendations, looks like I might be eating alot!

I would suggest the Peabody if you're willing to pay the price.
It's nice to be nice to the nice.

Sadly, I won't be in Memphis Wednesday night. The reschedule to the night before Thanksgiving really sucked for me so I returned my tickets. :(

We visit Memphis regularly. The expensive, but nice hotels are the Westin and the Peabody. But for several years when we wanted a value hotel we stayed at the Comfort Inn across from Mud Island. BUT, it has been a few years since we stayed there. It is an older hotel, but very clean and the staff very friendly. The Trolley runs right by it down to Beale Street and the Orpheum.

The Sleep Inn is on the same block or the next one. Small rooms but pretty good - at least the last time we stayed there. Again the trolley is right out front.
