Last nights Coldplay concert here sounds like it was a rave

Yes, a rave party.

To quote what a friend of mine that went to last nights ''concert'' said on Facebook today:

"Confetti showers, fireworks under an open-roof stadium sky, giant bouncing balloon balls, multicoloured arm bands that light up, rainbow lasers, projections, six giant stargate LED screens, satellite stages out in the crowd"

Wtf is this, a rave party or a rock concert?
Another reason why I have a strong dislike for Coldplay.
Focus on your music (which is lame) more so than your rave party show.
I've just asked my friend if Coldplay induce post-show tinnitus.

Everyone here is praising last nights show on radio and online.
Well all I can say is at the same venue....Pearl Jam 2009 > Coldplay 2012

  • When I saw them a few years ago, I was pleasantly surprised. Was a really good show.

The show I saw this past August in NJ had everything you mentioned except for fireworks, and I have to say, all that extra 'stuff' Coldplay puts into their show--it works, and it's pretty amazing. Most especially the light show. Everyone's wristbands lighting up in accordance to the music was a really awesome touch, made for a really unique environment. Here's an example http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_H7qdvg9xWM

And part of the reason why this works so well is that Coldplay didn't rely on spectacle--they performed really REALLY well also. Chris' voice translates extremely well live and the band is very talented, too.

I'd venture to say PJ>Coldplay hands down any day, but two veeeery different bands. You're gonna get spectacle at Coldplay where at PJ it's just a straight up ass kicking rock show!

Watched their ACL airing from PBS several days ago and was really drawn in.....fantastic show. Then watched a trailer for their forthcoming live release and the choreography b/t band and fans is quite impressive. Lots of thought went into making it work and they pull it off in aces IMHO. Colors, colors, colors....good stuff.

we had these bracelets given to us and when certain songs were played they flashed. to look out and see all these different colour flashing lights was kinda cool. i dont remember much of the gig(probably cause i was working) but i remember hearing the scientist. and they played clocks, which is my fave coldplay song. :) all the rest was just a blur of beer and smirnoff ice.

im working at tonights gig too, so well see how much of it i remember tomorrow.

  • I kinda don't get the hate they get... They seem to be pretty self aware of their status (Chris Martin even thanked 'all the guys that were dragged here by their girlfriends')... And they have some pretty damn good pop tunes
