I was at that show, and when he started talking about the letter he received, my first thought was "how would one get a letter to Ed?" A chance meeting? The mail (through the 10C)? Through a security guard. Glad to hear that he took it from you personally during an impromptu meet and greet.
The other thing that was said, that stands out, is that he and the band got into music for very selfish reasons... because they like to make music. To realize that what they are doing is even bigger than that, and actually impacting people, it is very meaningful and they sometimes lose site of the effects that they have on others. That what you shared was very meaningful and special to him and really makes him feel good about what he/they are going up there.
That is not a quote, but it was something to that effect.
Like so many others, I am sure, I have often thought about what it might be like to have a small window of Ed's time. What would I say... what would I want to convey? How could I use that small window in the most meaningful way? I thought about sending him a letter, through the 10C, but like you almost did, I have sat on those thoughts and not acted on them. I am glad you followed your instincts and handed him that letter.

For those who scoff at "Jamily" in my name... 9 years ago, when my first daughter was born there were jokes about whether my priority would be my family or PJ. I smiled and quipped "I am a JamilyMan." What was a family joke became a hated term among jammers. Didn't see that one coming!

Great story Lindsay! When I read this, I felt like I was there with you. Im so happy for you and im ALSO gladd that you truly appreciate it all. Sometimes people get time with Ed or any of the band and all they want to do is brag or one up people and thats not cool. It makes me happy that Ed did this for someone who was really moved by this. Always keep this kind of exxxperience close to your heart!!!

thats a really nice story.... to me Ed is a great singer in a band that writes genuinely awesome songs... and to you he's obviously a lot more than that.. which is cool.

Lindsay, that is such a moving post, I'm saving to my hard drive. I'm really looking to seeing or at least hearing Ed's intro and message for you. If there's an official release from this tour, they'd be crazy not to include that!

That is so great. You know, Eddie Vedder is such an amazing person. I had the privelege of meeting him when I won the Into the Wild contest through the tenclub. They flew me to LA from NY and got me into the premiere of the movie. It was an amazing movie that I could relate to. The songs that were on the soundtrack went along perfectly with the way the story was unfolding. I couldn't believe how much it touched me, I actually had tears in my eyes when the movie ended.
After the movie, they had a reception and to my surprise, Eddie Vedder was there. When I told him I won the contest through the tenclub, he was so nice and he stopped and spoke to me for about a half hour. I told him how much his music means to me and growing up I listened to his music since I was 15 years old. As time went on, I have had a lot of bad things happen in my life and Pearl Jam's music has gotten me through it. Depending on where I was at in my life, the songs all touched me in a different way and the meaning I got from the songs changed depending what I was going through. I told him all of this and he was geniunely touched and he said sometimes as an artist they forget how the music can touch others and when he wrote the songs based on what he went through, he never thought how it could affect others in such a positive way. It was the most surreal experience and I am totally grateful that I got to meet Eddie Vedder and speak to him.
That being said..the fact that you touched him in such a way that he dedicated a song to you, that is simply beautiful and you should be so proud. I am so happy for you, that is an experience you will never forget!!

Hey everybody I'm new here, I'm a friend of Lindsay's. I'm not a big PJ fan but I joined because some people here seem pretty cool. Anyways...
I'm sure some of you remember her waving at Eddie story? Well the same exact night we exchanged stories about what happened to us. She was at a PJ concert and I was at a Russian Circles concert at the Middle East Upstairs in Cambridge Massachusettes, with about 100 people in the audience. (smallest place I've ever been to) She told me about what happened to her, then I told her how I hung out with the guitarist for Russian Circles. HE actually started the convo with me because I was just standing around at the merch table and when he walked by he noticed my Tool shirt. I talked to him for a good 10 minutes about them touring with Tool and venues around the area and things like that, before meeting the rest of the band briefly then leaving. She thought my story seemed better but I reminded her that I was at a tiny place with a lesser known band so I had a much better chance of meeting them. Also the fact that she is obsessed with EV makes her story more important to her than mine was to me, so her story actually was better, and this new one is beyond amazing.
Anyways the point I'm getting at is that lesser known bands love talking to fans before and after shows because it makes them more confident knowing they have alot of fans out there and they continue making music, but usually big famous mainstream rock bands don't seem to care about fan interaction because they know they have a ton of fans already, and they just want to gtfo when the show is over, and they don't pay any attention. I have a new respect for Eddie Vedder, not only for at least reading the note, but for letting her know that it meant something to him and not just throwing it aside afterwords.
So in conclusion, never be afraid to approach somebody in a band you are a fan of. They are just people, on any level of popularity some people never change, and it always leaves you with a special memory of getting to meet somebody who made music that truly means something to you. Don't be shy or star struck, just go for it.
