whats matter with people!!!

DENVER—The U.S. Postal Service is defending a mail carrier who stepped around a man who collapsed and died near his front door.

Dale Porch was dropped off at home last week after work but never made it inside. Family members say hours later, a mail carrier walked by the body to deliver the mail but did nothing to help.

The family says the mail carrier told them he thought the body was a mannequin, a decoration left over from Halloween.

KMGH-TV reports the carrier has been temporarily taken off the route. A Postal Service spokesman called it an unfortunate situation that probably would not have happened any other time of the year.

An autopsy report is pending.

I'm dying to make a "left the Porch" comment...but I'll :silent:

    (bad taste, I know...sorry)

Really though - how do you not at least CHECK to make sure it's indeed a mannequin and not a human being? Not like the maildude could've done anything at that point, but jeez...

It's not everyday you find a dead guy...
this time of year you find a lot of dead decorations.

I'm sorry he's taken off his route, hope not his salary.
  • Yeah, without seeing what he saw/walked passed, it's hard to take it real hard on the guy.

If the dead guy was face down and the mail carrier only saw his legs/back, and other houses around had a bunch of scarecrows and similar decorations, I can see how it could have been dismissed. Most of us go through at least some part of our day oblivious to our surroundings.

What would his motivation be for knowingly ignoring it? All he would have to do is call 911 and wait a few minutes for someone to come.

I've stepped around dead people in Manhattan, rode the subway with them and the ferry.
