Fake Ticket Warning
November 08 2012

Dear Pearl Jam fans:

We wanted to let you know we've seen an increase in fake tickets as of late.
If you purchase tickets from Ebay or Craiglist, especially the online paper printouts,
you're at high risk of purchasing a fake ticket that may not be honored at the shows.
Only those tickets purchased from the venue box office, Ten Club, and authorized ticket
vendors can be considered valid. Beware -- we hate hearing about fans getting scammed.

  • EVERY show but Eds two in Clearwater have tickets readily available through the official sites? Who's supporting scalpers with the secondary market?

I'd buy one through an official site...

  • I saw this happen to a couple of people at EV night two in NYC last year. They were not print fast or print at home ticketmaster tickets that were already scanned but actual counterfit ticketmaster tix. After realizing the bar codes wouldn't scan the door person recognized that the print font on the tix was slightly different. She asked for the next person in line to see their tix for comparison and showed the difference to the people who had the fake tickets. If I ever use e-bay for tickets I make sure they are traditional "hard" tickets and not print at home..just to be on the safe side. It would be best if all tickets were will call pick up only like the 10C tickets.

    That sucks.

I haven't had to resort to buying scalper tickets in a long time, but I would avoid ticketfast at all costs. There's nothing to stop the seller from printing out 100's of copies of the same tickets. They don't have to counterfeit, they just reprint to their heart's content. So the ticket's aren't really fakes and can't be identified as such :(

On the flip side. If everyone looses faith in scalpers/brokers because of a surge in counterfeit tickets, that can only be a good thing? (IE if the demand for 2nd hand tickets drops through the floor, genuinely acquiring tickets would be come easier as you wouldn't be competing with scalpers).

    Karma will get those @$$holes!
    This too shall pass.....
  • i would never buy ticketfast(print at home option)for any secondary market ticket...especially off craigslist/ebay where there is no buyer protection

secondary ticket markets i have used like stubhub, ticketsnow guarantee you entry and sometimes you can buy tickets there at less than face value

fake hard tickets happen in cities like NYC all the time.24/7/365

Always be wary... got burned at a UFC in San Jose on craigslist. People had to have stolen rolls of tickets somehow. They were completely "legit" thermal printed tickets. Even had current adds on the back. Luckily the box office gave of seats that would have cost us the same amount we got ripped off. They were even a bit surprised at how good they were. Ill never use CL again. Ebay's dispute process is a joke. Stubhub only for high dollar tickets from now on.

What about having a system that requires you to turn up at the venue with the credit card you paid for the tickets with? Surely that would cut down on touts, and therefore fake tickets/fans getting ripped-off?

They already have a system like that in place with "ticketless" ticketing where you swipe the credit card you used to pay for the tickets at the venue and it prints out a receipt (your ticket). While it cuts down on fraud, sadly scalpers have found ways around this as well with prepaid cards, etc.

Some small venues in the UK request your credit or bank card on the door and issue your tickets on the way into the gig. Can't see this working for arena shows?

Scalpers should be locked up! If you have no intention of going to a gig, don't buy batches of tickets!

Worked OK for the Radiohead show @ the MEN Arena last month. You needed to have the credit/debit card you booked the tickets on to get entry.

I wonder if there is a correlation between a the first ever fake ticket warning (that I can recall) and this being the first EV tour that isn't sold out real hard?

Does management take us for idiots?

No one pays for anything on eBay or Stubhub with real money anymore... very little chance against getting scammed if you pay with play money (paypal).

And anyone who buys anything on craigslist that doesn't meet the seller in person will pay with paypal as well.

So, the only way anyone gets scammed anymore is to hand someone cold hard cash in person, in exchange for a fake ticket. Which has always been the case, on every tour, for every band, for every sporting event, for every event, period. And this post specifically mentions ebay/cl, not shady dudes in back alleys.

If anything, I bet there are less "fake" tickets than ever turning up because there isn't much demand in the secondary market for tickets.

Pure speculation, but I'd say there has been 10% as many secondary market sales on this EV tour compared to his first few. Therefore it has to be almost impossible to have more fake tickets when so few secondary market transactions are even taking place.

I guess the only real risk is the inconveniance of getting fake tickets and having to walk over to the box office and buy real tickets to get into the show; then having to go through the trouble of filing a chargeback with their credit card company when they get home.

I'm glad management is looking out for them, err I mean us.

I was at an Incubus concert a couple years ago and this couple had the traditional "hard" tickets they got from ebay or something like that. But, they were fake as well. So yeah, gotta be real careful. Of course I bought a single ticket off ebay for the Philly '05 concert and it was good.

Just because there is a link doesn't mean tix are avaialble. Try buying a pair of tix to either show and see what happens. Both shows have like 3-5 tix available (total) and neither show has 2 tix together. if you want a pair of tix your only options are 3rd party or other fans. I was caught off-gaurd by this as I only had tix to the first show and now I am scrambling for night 2.
  • This shit is heartbreaking. It's amazing how little consideration people truly give to the repercussions involved in putting such direct negative energy into the world.

or, it could be that people who get scammed unreasonably expect the box office to fix the situation, even though it isn't really their responsibility.

But the buyer doesn't always go. They might buy it as a gift, or give or sell them to friends or whatever. And people buy tix from other members here for face value all the time. It has to be the buyer's responsibility not to buy fake tix.
