is the tea party dead?

the most recent election cost several prominent tea partiers their job. as far as i can tell bachmann was one of the only ones to keep her seat, and that was by the skin of her teeth.

does this mean that the tea party is losing relevance? is it going away?

i really don't have an answer. i was just wondering what everyone's take on it was.

the tea party will never be dead. you'll always have those stuck in the 50's bigots. they'll be like the kkk, always there, but not as big as they once were.

Ah shit- today of all days I'm having tea instead of coffee.

But no, the tea part will not go away- at least not here in El Dorado County. But then this is El Dorado County where Obama signs were heavily vandalized yesterday.

interesting question...I think so. But not the original fiscal ideals. Just the Usurped version of crazy that picked up steam with idiots.

I am hoping this election pushes those on the right away from supporting politicians because of social issues.

My county has probably the strongest tea party support in all of California (not all of CA is liberal- we have some very strongly conservative counties and El Dorado is near or at the top that way) so if this thread sticks around a while and I remember I'll check back in here with my take on it.

Wouldn't see it as dead but I think seriously diminished and not really a force to be reckoned with.

I think this election showed that 'extreme' positions are not overly acceptable anymore and certainly will not appeal enough to the masses to be able to win anything on a big scale.

They will always be there though as the KKK is still there (though not 'vocal' as they were), etc.

The original Tea Party mission statement was 100% fiscal and something I identified with. It was hijacked by the extreme social side in the last couple years.

I think the Tea Party will still be able to gut out incumbent GOP in the primaries. But the candidates they are backing seem to be at a disadvantage in state-wide elections, thus giving the Democrats an advantage. It will be interesting to see how GOP deals with this problem.

it's really quite simple ... stfu ... ... mourdock would have easily won his seat if he didn't make those comments about legitimate rape ... problem with the people they nominate is that they can't help themselves ... it's sort of our conservative/reforma/alliance party in canada ... we have just as many kooks but harper put a muzzle on them ... and he's won successive elections ... all you gotta do is stfu ...

There is also the ripple effect that Mourdock's loss will have on Indiana politics overall. Pandering to extreme views will soften as other politician see it is now a weakness. Even Mike Pence, once a social GOP hero, was mum on social issues during his run for Governor.

If I was a liberal hippie, I would be praying that the Tea Party is as strong as ever.

ya ... for sure ... up here - we warned conservative voters of harper's hidden agenda and now that he's got his majority - it's actually been worse than feared ... pretty sure if he showed those colours beforehand - he would not have gotten his majority ...

no, they are doing quite well on the state and city level. their agenda and grassroots action translate better in a more defined/geographical race.

was listening to someone on potus earlier re. elected judges in county precincts and how these are being targeted w/great success.

    hee hee..

    not in Iowa.

You're going to have to just admit that the Tea Party was an invented thing... funded by billionaires and their own members were fooled.

    But the general public... not.

Yeah, in the state that we hope will soon secede, there's probably a few tea party people left. But now that the Billionaires are pulling their money away.... well, "Nature has a way of shutting that whole thing down."

Yeah, the original focus on fiscal issues has been so distorted by the social conservatives, neo-cons, racists, and hypocrisy.

The GOP really has to figure out what they want to do... be the type of conservatives that the tea party and talk radio want, or do they want to win federal elections.
