Show 1

01. Can’t Keep
02. Sleepless Nights
03. Without You

(Ed thanks the audience for showing up since the shows had to be moved from earlier in the year. Ed says it is great to be “Las Vegas, the entertainment capitol of Nevada.”
Ed has the house lights turned up so he can see what costumes the people in the crowd are wearing. He spots a pair dressed as Axel & Slash of Guns & Roses. He says, ‘“Axel, I just saw you the other day at Bridge School...Hey, don’t you have a show tonight? Ahh I get it, you will just arrive at Midnight....” He introduces the next song by saying it is about trust being the only way to make a relationship last.)

04. You’re True
05. Sometimes
06. Elderly Woman Behind The Counter In A Small Town
07. Just Breathe

(Ed mentions missing a few lyrics and chords in the previous song. He jokes that he thought it might be a good idea to take acid before a show in Vegas on Halloween but in retrospect he may have been mistaken. He does recommend coming to Las Vegas for one day and then spend several days riding the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon like he did after he finished working on the film “Into The Wild”.)

08. Far Behind
09. No Ceiling
10. Guaranteed
11. Rise

(Ed’s guitar tech brings out the wrong guitar for the next song. He mentions that the guitar is too big. He then says, “I don’t want to call anyone out but he fucks up so rarely that I just want to point out that this was his mistake. Was it your mistake George?” George confirms it was his mistake. Ed says to the audience that this is the first time George has admitted that he made a mistake. Ed then says he wants to play the next song for his friend that passed away earlier this year, Dennis Flemion of the band “The Frogs”. Ed talks about how The Frogs could be odd and abrasive but how they also could write beautiful songs. This devolves into a reference of a Frogs song about someone’s Grandma holding a penis. The discussion devolves further but Ed brings it back around to the next song being a tribute to friends lost unexpectedly.)
12. Man Of The Hour

(Ed talks about friends and family losing homes and business and some almost losing their lives in Hurricane Sandy. Ed says he was fortunate that he didn’t lose anyone. He brings out Boom Gasper of Pearl Jam and they play a Bruce Springsteen song dedicating it to the people affected by the hurricane)

13. My City In Ruins-(Springsteen)

(Ed talks about ex-FEMA chief Michael Brown, the man behind the massive FEMA failure after Hurricane Katrina, having the nerve to criticize President Obama for “acting too quickly” in the wake of Sandy and trying to politicize the tragedy in Benghazi. Ed says he is thankful that he has a job that doesn’t require him to lie.)

14. Masters Of War-(Dylan)
15. Lukin
16. Porch

Encore Break 1

17. You've Got To Hide Your Love Away-(Lennon, McCartney)
18. Unthought Known

(Ed brings out Glen Hansard to sing and play with him. Ed spends some time talking about Proposition 37 and well funded lobbyists that are fighting against it. He asks the Californians in the audience to vote “yes” for Proposition 37)

19. Society w/ Glen Hansard-(Jerry Hannan)

(Ed mentions that Johnny Ramone asked him to go to Las Vegas with him to see The Everly Brothers play. Ed didn’t make it and regrets it now because Johnny is gone and the Everly Brothers don’t play together anymore. He talks about it being an opportunity lost.)

20. Sleepless Nights w/ Glen Hansard-(Boudleaux Bryant, Felice Bryant)
21. Falling Slowly w/ Glen Hansard-(Hansard, Irglová)

(Ed says he wasn’t going to play this song originally but when he landed in Las Vegas he met a young boy named Nicholas who, along with his parents, were coming to see Ed’s show. The parents tried to get Nicholas to notice Ed standing at baggage claim but Ed says he was far more interested in the posters of the glamorous showgirls that are all over the airport. Ed laughs and says he is with Nicholas on this. He plays the next song for Nicholas.)

22. Forever Young-(Dylan)
23. The End
24. Arc

Encore Break 2

(Ed talks about long time Pearl Jam crew member Liz meeting and falling in love with Glen’s friend and guitar tech Simon. He relates how he couldn’t make the wedding which took place at the “Viva Las Vegas” wedding chapel but was able to watch it stream on his computer. He invites Liz and Simon to come out on stage and introduces them to the audience. He then invites the original Elvis impersonator that married them to come out and renew their vows. (Roland August from “Viva Las Vegas”). Elvis gives a nice speech and then remarries Liz and Simon Good. Ed and Elvis then play “Can’t Help Falling In Love”.)

25. Can’t Help Falling In Love w/ Roland ‘Elvis’ August-(George Weiss)
26. Hard Sun -(Peterson)

A really good set/show for opening night. For those who have never been to the Pearl at the Palms, it was built for an artist like Vedder. The sightlines, acoustics are awesome! Lots of energy being Halloween, close to Full moon and Las Vegas.

Only criticism would be merchandise. 1 stand inside the main entrance. Got in around 730 and lines were 15 deep. Went in to watch Glens set and came back after and posters were sold out. Was able to get a t shirt for 35$, a little steep.

    Ready for night 2!

  • Wow what a show. I just want to thank Ed for such a great set list. Some of you know my story but for those that don't the short version is this ,show was my do over in a way. Last Ed show I attended (Long Beach 7/6/11) was clouded by my moms tragic death in a vehicle accident here in Vegas the very next day. Needless to say the Long Beach show was a blur.
Last nights show was a sort of memorial/rebirth for me with Man of the Hour & Arc. The End was touching and a perfect song for me to dedicate to my husband as he has been a rock by my side through it all.
The show took all my worries and stresses even if just for a few hours, as on top of still mourning my moms death I am now dealing with a pretty scary medical thing awaiting test results that may potentially change my life forever. So thanks Ed for allowing me to sit there and have all those worries leave me even if just for a few hours.
    Can't wait for tonight's show <3

P.S. can people please, please stop yelling random shit out during the show? I'm sure Eddie knows he's Eddie so stop screaming his name out every 2 seconds, some of us are truly trying to listen to him. And the people blurting out song titles, it's not request hour let the man do his thing.
And he who forgets...will be destined to remember...

What time did Ed hit the stage?
    hippiemom = goodness
  • How were the ten club seats? Since they said in the email that they were randomly selected around the venue, I'm curious how they were for the Ten Clubbers last night.

Sounds like it was a great show!!

Fucking great first show - very memorable. Great set list. The show was amazing, the pre and post party at the Loose Caboose was so much fun, and the MERCH! The merch is awesome,, especially the poster from last night. Got the poster and two t shirts. Plan on getting the poster tonight, a hat (really cool), and a deck of playing cards.

Great people and great energy and crowd at these shows. Boom is in the house too, and he only made one appearance on City Of Ruin last night - hoping for LBC and Crazy Mary tonight.

    What was the audience like??

There was a lot of flash photography and video taking from up in the balcony seating. Security came up and into my row three or four times because someone kept trying to film, creating a really bright (and annoying) light from her phone. This was the fifth time I've seen Ed solo, and sadly have become used to people screaming out things. It's a much more intimate setting...it seems that gives certain people more reason to say something to get noticed. But the picture and video taking is absurd, especially when there are signs posted all over the entrance, and even the ticket-scanners and ushers remind you not to do it. Such a selfish act to do it when it obviously interrupts the experience for those around. I held up my program to block the light for most of the show until this particular person finally stopped after the visits from security.

It was an amazing show and night for me for so many reasons, and the picture and video taking would never ruin my experience, but if you're still doing it after multiple requests by security, you should be removed.

Just got back to DC after catching Eddie last night. What a show! Energy was high, with opening night and Halloween to boot. The music was great and Eddie interacted with the crowd a lot. Eddie asked for the house lights to see costumes and asked if anyone came as the "proverbial sexy nurse", joking like it's something he's tried in the past. (Is there a story there somewhere?)

The only low point was the butthead heckler Glen had to deal with in the opening set. Luckily the guy was quiet or kicked-out for Ed's set.

And did anyone else see the skydiver's after the show, jumping from a helicopter over the strip? We heard they were filming hangover 3...a crazy end to an awesome night.
  • Thanks for the great recap. I was originally trying to attend this show and would have loved this set list. I hope everyone had a blast.

We ended up walking back to the strip from the Palms after the show and totally ended up being right under where the jumpers were landing! Saw 2 jumps. It was cool wasn't it?!! I was wondering what they were filming!

Oh and I loved loved LOVED the show and all the in between song crowd interaction! I think I cried twice. Ha ha. Came all the way from Vancouver,B.C. Originally had tickets to April show and wasn't sure how on earth I was gonna make it out again for October but ended up winning a 3 night Vegas trip through a twitter contest!!! So thankful for that!! A perfect Halloween.
  • I went to both shows both awesome in their own ways! I was told by crew that that they were filming the jumpers for a redbull commercial
  • I'm still on a high from both nights and re-living the memories. I went to both shows and not much can beat Black on Night 2, but Night 1 was also an amazing show for me.

First a big thank you to Jopetto75 who emailed me his ticket, trusting I would send him the money, a stranger he has never met from Canada. Meant a lot. (Jopetto75, have a great time in Phx, Alq, & El Paso!) And thank you to MamasanBren for the pre-party. Met some nice folks there.

You're True was an unexpected treat for me ... it is one of my favorites from uke songs, and I never thought I would hear it in Vegas. Guaranteed has a special meaning for me, and it brought tears to my eyes that night - made feel so close to my dad who passed away 4.5 years ago, probably the point that I will never forget about that night. And then a few minutes later - Man of the Hour. More tears but good ones, you know.

Loved Ed's rant about Michael Brown, and then laying in to Masters of War. Amazing intensity.

And I loved loved loved the version of Porch. Just could not stay seated for that entire song (sorry to the folks behind me).

Glen Hansard is amazing too (Astral Weeks - holy cow was that ever unexpected and intense and awesome). Falling Slowly - wow.

Arc gave me goosebumps and chills.

Felt very very lucky to be there, and incredibly grateful.

I'm sorry to hear that, I hope you can find the same peace I was able to feel during the show. Big hugs to you

song 2 should be sleeping by myself rather than sleepless nights.
  • Hey ohhh - I got 2 posters from the 2nd night. Would anyone want to trade a poster from night 2 for a poster from night 1?
