EARLY Voting....Is the BEST Move

Well I voted today Palm Beach County...Wellington, Florida...it was only 1 hour 40 minutes and about 2 minutes to actually cast my vote. I took use of the sample ballots that sent to me earlier and took it with me.

I said why wait, early voting opened on Saturday so i took the opportunity and got it out of the way. I spoke with a father and daughter that was behind me for most of my wait...it was his daughter's first time voting and voting for Romney when the volunteers gave her a quick stand and cheer for first time voters once inside.

All and all a positive experience and thank goodness it wasn't a searing hot and humid day...it was a beautiful windy and sunny day, my kind of a day.

So what was your experience if you voted early and do you think of voting early and is it the way to vote?

I voted by mail because I'm pretty much a day late and a dollar short on everything I do.

Well of course they are not many lines in Texas it's a red state BUT Florida is what we call battleground! So everybody comes out to vote. :D

    Absentee ballot, baby!

Part of me likes the formality of going to the polling place, doing my thing...but life's been unpredictable lately so I figure I'd get 'er done while I can.

By the way, nice post, mr. g under ;)

Well, Texas may not be a battleground state but there are plenty of local and state races to weigh in on. I voted last week at a community center where I happened to be teaching a class. I only had to wait a few minutes to vote, but the entire 2 hours I was there the polling place was busy nonstop. I was glad to see so many people voting.

Early voting is great. Glad to take advantage of it.

do people try to influence voters in anyone's area!? ... like you're standing in line and the people you are around try to talk up their candidate?

I've never had it happen to me, whether through so-called "intimidation" or just regular chit-chat.

Only time I can remember anything like that happening had to do with a local election, voting on a proposal to fund a new arts/performance hall. Someone in line was talking about how excited he was about it. Nobody really got into a conversation with him.

Superb question....I thought that might happen while I was in line with about 70 people. The father and daughter behind me (daughter a first time voter wearing a Romney shirt) I thought would try some influence but we never spoke of politics at all. Everything from sports to schools, college life to entertainment to weather that was the beauty of spending 150 minutes together just talking.

Now in the previous election my sister voting with me blurted out that I WASN'T voting for Obama in Maryland while in line. Which caused quite a few folks to give me a look then finally asked me why I wasn't voting for him and swiftly told them in a stern manner and they finally backed off when they could see I meant business. MD a predominately blue state and my town at the time was voting almost entirely for then Senator Obama.

Actually most if not all the folks in line were NOT talking politics maybe it was due to the constant bombardment of ads in this battleground state of Florida. I'm getting tired of it too.

My wife voted at a church in 2008 and there were people inside the church handing out pro life pamphlets. I always vote at a grocery store and have never seen anything except signs on the corner.

That's really weird. I know people can't campaign for candidates within so many feet of the polling place altho I'm sure that isn't necessarily enforced. I'd be REALLY uncomfortable voting someplace where people handed out literature.

Mostly I've seen what g under p described, people making small talk about anything BUT politics.

I voted yesterday in Miami Beach and in Florida for the first time...

WTF is wrong with the process
Get a ticket... Get a 5 page ballot... Fill in with pen (don't go over lines!!) ... Then feed into machine which errors at least 5 times while I tried to get my enormous 5 page double sided ballot through :fp:

imagine the unreal cluster headache you'd have if you were a sparkling 410 years old.

i filled out my absentee ballot yesterday afternoon & turned in my voter's envelope this morning as well as my mother's envelope at the post office which is directly one block west of the county auditor's office that distributes & receives the voters' ballots.

the exchange of (yellow) absentee voters ballot triple sealed envelope(s) from my firm, proud, free, glorious & sturdy hands to the united states postal service worker was in fact one incredible moment as we made eye contact with matching smiles that read one another's mind as what was & is rewarding through being capable of doing our part.

i told her these are our votes... shared eye contact, smiles, & trust. it was nothing less than fascinating

Great story, Chadwick. That kind of eye/mind/ maybe even soul contact is fantastic. I just dropped mine in the mail slot at the PO. Next time I'll take it to the counter and hand deliver and see what happens.
