I saw this on another site.....What a great idea! How about we passed a federal law where any media outlet published or broadcast anything resembling a lie, be it a gross exaggeration, a half-truth by deliberate omission, etc, they would be fined somewhere around $25,000 per instance….

Almost all media would go broke in 8 hours or less.

Yes they would unless they decided they wanted to stay in business...

The media would never be able to broadcast any politicians talking ever again in fear of a fine.

    It hinders freedom of speech

We need to see through the bullshit
  • Isn't it sad when lying to people to fool them into voting for you is considered "free speech?"

How bout' fining the politicians...of course anyone who got suckered into donating to political parties would be expected to contribute more to help pay the fines...and this applies to all sides, anyone who thinks it doesn't is seeing his/her candidate through rosé color glasses.

I just read about Tom Cruise suing some paper that posted a crying picture of his daughter with the headline that was something like "Tom Cruise abandons daughter". The biggest bullshit about this, is that if he takes it all the way to court, it will be HIS life and credibility as a father on trial as HE has to prove he wasn't abandoning her and all this bullshit. So it's harder for the victim of lies to hold the liars accountable. what a fucked up situation that is.

Agreed. And this happens in so many situations - from politicians to celebrities, to many of the bullying situations that we've read about.

Question: How would the beloved MSNBC and FOX News Channels survive in this deal?
