Under a dark blue sky

The air smells so good tonight
sitting outside in the dark
I just wish these people would leave
or even
stop arriving
for if I could just sit here and soak in the air,
I might feel truly entranced again
and all right about waiting so long
and wishing so long
and loving so long...
the last few days,
it's been like a comedy!
all these unnecessary young characters
butting in with their own problems
or arriving with their one-liners
it's too much sometimes!
it pulls the beauty off course
for, if I sit out here in the air
I feel okay again and
it smells like heaven
and it sounds like a galaxy of stars
and it feels like tomorrow might be
any wonderful day we could imagine

By the time the light arrives here from the stars,
it's old news
and,
somehow I find that so reassuring
it's made the long journey and
it's still bright enough to reach our eyes
