Soviet Union...

..and PJ.com?

What do you think?

Little backstory before I dig into my question - I was banned for a month for trying to clear up a discrepancy on where a band member worked (that he stated in a public speech supporting and welcoming the incumbent President) vs. what I've heard and read elsewhere for over 15 years? Regardless of the merit of that question or post - banned -> one month. Silenced. For what?

But, getting back to the subject, what are your thoughts on the Soviet Union? What do you think of those who were silenced under that and other totalitarian regimes?

To be honest with you...I would take everything in context when coming from celebrities.

When it comes to politics and seemingly telling people the truth ... YouTube some George Carlin videos ... The rest of the celebrities ... Who cares what their opinion is .

I agree with you. But, feel like thats one thing if we weren't at the place we're currently at online... and if said quote didn't occur at the place (and fundraiser) it did. All of the sudden, it's kinda public fodder - it was covered by aol, yahoo, etc that day. This seems like a place that could clear up some things that didn't quite add up on that. But, I guess not... Don't question anything.... ever.

You don't get it. I mean - you'd prefer to speak with only like-minded folks (or different versions of you), right? Variety is boring. It should be squashed. Right?

My recall was that it got cleared up in the thread (this is probably going to get locked, too. It probably falls under 'band members personal lives' issue)

    Glad you recall it. ;)

Is it "personal" when it's a story shared at a fundraiser as an intro for the President of the United states? It was cited all over the US - aol, cnn, etc. I don't think that's personal - he took it "public". I didn't.

    But, back to the USSR...

i am not that familiar with the soviet union nor am i familiar with the exact context for which you were banned ... my objective opinion is that it is not very hard to contribute to this board without getting banned ... all sides of the political spectrum on this board have gotten bans ...

i do think sometimes you say things that come across as being "dickish" and you often won't let tiny things go ... based on my understanding of the posting guidelines - i am not surprised you got a ban ...

i, for one prefer having conversations with like-minded and non like-minded people equally ... it's important to hear varying viewpoints ... but i do believe the discourse by which the conversation takes place is just as important ...

Nope - I am. Differences of opinions -> squash em', better yet - jail em' or ban them. Prefer it to be a circle of people who's politics aligns perfectly with said band member or said poster named Go Beavers. Utopia.

    Pure and simple.

Well, #1, this is a private website. You can create your own and say whatever you want, but if you are here, you must abide by their rules. Soviet Union this is not.

Do I think they are heavy handed at times? Yep.

Do I think that the way they go after people posting "personal" stuff about the band is a bit over the top? Yep.

But then again, someone posting most of that personal stuff is suspect to begin with. They are a band, not your friends.

You never say anything that could be come across "diskish", polaris? And you always let tiny things go, right? You never could have been banned given your understanding of the posting guidelines, right?

As for your last point, I'm positive that you're abnormal there. Our friend above seems to prefer a land of identicals. Not sure our fav' lead band guy would feel different either.

The thread you got banned for was a smear. I said it then and I'll say it again now. Own up to it or don't, but that is what it was.

As for voices silenced in the Soviet Union...most of them would have traded their fate for a one month message board ban in a heart beat.

hey ... just offering my viewpoint ... up to you how you want to take it ... although you are basically proving my point by starting this thread ... you got banned - instead of seeing what role you might have played in it - you want to carry a grudge and cast blame elsewhere ...

We pay to post here. Some of us were members prior to that. Soviet Union could refer to a totalitarian approach... particularly to those who disagree with your agenda.

As for "personal" stuff - once again, read - > he said it in a televised fundraising speech introducing the fucking President of the US. That's "personal"??? Give me a break.. if it is so personal - why the fuck did he say it when he knew it would become public info (CNN, aol, yahoo, etc)? It's not personal info - "He" made it public info. Moreover, it didn't mesh up with other public info we all have heard routinely since the bands inception. I simply asked a fucking question and did so respectfully.

Here's the thread - read it - how the fuck is one banned for that, even if you dislike the premise of the question - you can't say it's disrespectful:

They also silenced anyone who disagreed. That's kinda the point. Totalitarian regimes tend to do that.
