Presidential Re-election vs. single 6-year term

What are everyone's thoughts on a single 6-year term for the office of President? I am in favor of it. Does it make sense to have the President (not Obama -- I am talking about every President) take time away from doing their job to seek re-election? I don't think it does. Debating, campaigning, meeting donors, all of these things should be beneath the POTUS once they have been elected to the highest office we have. A single four year term would be too short while an eight year term would be too long, but six makes for a nice compromise.

I would like to see this in addition to term limits on members of congress and the senate.

Yeah, that sounds reasonable to me as well.

Senators: Three 3 year terms, or Two 4 year terms.

Representative: Two 3 year terms, or Three 2 year terms.

President: One 5 year term? Or, keep it as is, but put restrictions on campaigning; i.e., time spent on campaign trail; overturn Citizens United; limit campaign ads (?);...............

i could maybe get behind changing the presidential term.

normally i would agree that 4 years is enough for any one man to get their agenda in motion. but then i look at what has happened these last 4 years with nearly 100% republican opposition and then i think if obama had a 6 year term we would have an additional 2 years of stonewalling, birtherism, and spending time repealing things before anything at all in the way of progress would get done.

I like a longer six-year, one-time term across the board.

House of Representatives is a ridiculous non-stop campaign w/ a two year cycle.

It would be a refreshing change to have a system where the person you elect only focuses on their job instead of the mess we now have.

Agreed that House members need their terms lengthened because two years does create a clusterfuck. Four year term, two term limit, rotating elections as in the Senate so only half of House members are running in any one cycle.

Most everyone is in favor of term limits, yet we never even see a bill make a viable attempt at passing.

It could happen if the people demanded it. The same goes for overturning Citizens United, ending the war in Afghanistan, holding Wall St. accountable, etc, etc, etc

They can easily get us to fight each other rather then focus on their failures.

I'm not sure I ever see term limits for Congress becoming a reality, despite there being a solid case for them. We have seen term limits for POTUS established and relatively recently, so making a change there seems to be a good place to start.
