The video wouldn't load for me either so I saw it first on The Ed Show...well done Mike!
When my son was diagnosed with stage 3 thyroid cancer at the age of 13, one of the many thoughts and concerns I had was from then on he'll be denied insurance coverage. I don't dare let the policy we have laps no matter how expensive it gets or how little it covers for fear we'll never get it back.
Thank you Mike, for championing The Affordable Care Act... I signed the petition.
This band has a bunch of stand-up guys that we can all be proud of.
This isn't really just about pre-existing conditions either. It's the way people without insurance or lesser coverage, are treated like second-class citizens. One of my best friends was in a motorcycle crash and fractured his collar bone in 4 places. He didn't have insurance...the doctor's held off doing any surgery (which he needed badly) until they were certain they were going to get some sort of insurance payment. The person who owned the motorcycle, his insurance ended up footing the bill through the "uninsured or under-insured" clause in his policy. But the doctor would NOT do the surgery or provide medical care after the ER visit until that first payment from the insurance company was made (even in the ER, my friend was left laying on the gurney for hours while they tended to others with lesser injuries, because they provided insurance information). Meanwhile, I had to watch my friend/roommate suffer in tremendous pain for two weeks.
Now that the insurance company is paying, the doctor (or his office, rather) makes sure to call my friend for his physical therapy appointments and post-surgery check ups every time. Absolutely fucking ridiculous.
"Now YOU listen. When we are on this ship, you are to refer to me as 'Idiot' not 'You Captain'!"
I won't be reading it, thanks. I already known that what you're talking about is bad for one's health. But seriously, this is just inappropriate for this thread; it is detracting from the intended message (and by responding I have contributed, so sorry everyone). If you want to go off about this, start your own thread maybe? EDIT: ah, I see you did. Good.
Thank you for calling out TooMuchBlood as a "Thread Hijacker" . :nono:
Back to the subject of "Life Is A Pre-existing Condition" video and Mike's continued work for affordable healthcare.
I think you both missed my boldfaced sentence near the bottom of my original post. I think it's great Mike wants to fight this fight, but I see a better way for the masses. Rather than call me a "thread hijacker," it'd been cool if you considered that someone might benefit from what I wrote. At some point in your life, I hope you sit down and wonder why "X" person has cancer and "Y" person has Type 2 diabetes. You might be one of those people now or someday. Counting on doctors to help "cure" and insurance companies to pay more isn't the best solution. Thanks!
Look, I don't want to fight with you.
You're more than welcome to talk about your theories in a different thread, which I see you have.
That's my only point. We're talking apples & oranges.

I'm glad you are taking this position about Obama's health care package. I think the world will be a better place if less fortunate people have health care too!
I have no respect for anyone who uses a thread advocating patients rights to support their own agenda while also broadly insulting patients for simply being sick. Perhaps you could learn a bit about empathy before shouting from your pedestal.
Aside from that: Thanks Mike, for being such a great voice for the rest of us. You're a true inspiration, just like Jennifer Jaff.

Main point: Mike is a true inspiration as you said, and it is just wrong to use this conversation he has started to hawk your book...sell it somewhere else buddy
I was alone and far away when I heard the band start playing!
...I was always a DeadHead, but when I first heard Winston Rodney, aka the Burning Spear, sing, I became a SpearHead too!
My 10c worth...thanks so much to Mike for bringing this to the forefront. This is a VERY important issue to me.
Mike's video needs to reach as many people as possible xxx

I can't put into words how much this video means as a mom who wants her son to have coverage and not be penalized for having cancer aged 5! Thanks so much! xxx THIS issue is exactly why I looked like a pumpkin in Missoula talking to John Tester about Sammy.
I think what Mike's done is absolutely fantastic! I've been working with the Campaign for Better Health Care for the past year and a half and I can honestly say that story sharing is probably THE most effective way to get people talking about health reform. Mike is in an excellent position to advocate for those living with a pre-existing condition and hopefully he will inspire more people to share their stories so that more and more people will recognize the enormous impact the Affordable Care Act can have. Bravo, Mike!
