Guess this thread is maybe to make us reflect a bit on this. All has already been said in numerous 'gun control' threads - I doubt if opinions of individuals here have changed.

CBG - can't remember what the statistics for victims of crimes perpetuated by someone known to them. But I do remember it was scarily high.

I'm not sure of the exact statistic either...but I think it's somewhere around 80%. Very scary.

well there seems to be a DV component since the shooter's wife obtained a restraining order just 3 days prior and she seemed to be one of the intended targets...so that's an issue. Bush is a non-issue since we already know it's his fault

There may be other factors, but my guess is that loss of control was the triggering factor here...she regains some control by obtaining a restraining order and he's determined to get that control back. All part of the cycle...leaving an abusive relationship is the most dangerous time for a dv victim, and the time s/he is most likely to be killed...part of the reason so many decide to stay. They know how to survive within the relationship, but once they leave, all bets are off.

I live about 4 miles from the shooting and I'm extremely pissed!!! I drove by the salon on the way to Lowes with my daughter just as the first police cars and ambulances were pulling in. Didn't really thing anything of it. Had to pull over about 12 times for other emergency vehicles that past. Did my shopping turned on the Packer game left took the same route home, at this point there were 50+ emergency vehicles and helicopters on site. There was NO WORD OF WHAT WAS HAPPENING on the radio. Look I know everybody loves the stupid ass Packer here but come on! I didn't know what was happening until I was home. Would be nice to know there is some fucking nut job wandering the neighborhood with a gun. They closed down the whole area, malls, interstate, restaurant ect.... way to keep my family safe as I drive by not knowing that some fucking asshole could stop me and my 4 year old daughter. Good thing I knew the packers score.

Oh wow - glad you guys are safe! I'd be pissed to. How scary to know you and your daughter were that close - and that this guy was on the loose.

cool, but very sad I just read 4 people were killed and one of those was the gunman...four family's and their friends that will have to try and make sense of what happened,my thoufgts and prayers to those people.

I did hear am620 break in a few times during the game about the shooting. Also I heard am1130 was doing reports right when it happened. FM radio had nothing about it until way later. Very sad situation, today I didnt care about the packers game. Was worried when I heard that maybe somebody I knew might have been at the spa but thank god wasn't. It was a crazy scary few hrs. I agree they could have done more on the radio.

Fresno workplace shooting leaves one dead, four injured

A gunman killed one colleague and injured three others at a Fresno, Calif., chicken processing plant, according to several news reports.

Police say the man then shot himself near the scene. According to The Fresno Bee, the shooter, identified as Lawrence Jones, 42, of Fresno and two of his coworkers were taken to a hospital in critical condition. A third victim was reportedly in good condition.

KMPH-TV reports the rampage took place about 8:30 a.m. at Valley Protein, which produces poultry products. The plant was formerly known as Apple Valley Farms.

"We're still trying to determine what provoked these actions," Police Chief Jerry Dyer told reporters at a news conference.
