baby elephant rescue

this is an awesome video of elephant researchers getting a baby elephant out of a 5 foot deep well.
the reactions of the mom during the rescue and the anxiety that she is feeling is palpable. she had to be chased off by the truck because she thought the humans were a threat to her and her baby.
and the reunion between mom and baby is just awesome.
the video shows that these animals are more human than people think. they feel the same love, concern, worry, anxiety, relief, and happiness that we feel.
how anyone can murder these animals is beyond me. it is just sad...

I'd say humans are more animal than people (like to) think - we're all animals, for better or worse.
Elephants...simply majestic.
Lions, gorillas, chimps, man - not all that different.
I'm with you on not getting how they can be so easily tossed away - any animal, really.
Thanks for this video.0 -
Oh my god...how can one not cry watching that reunion?
Wow.
Bless those people.0 -

my sisters fav animal so very dear to meLiving is no laughing matter: you must live with great seriousness like a squirrel for example - I mean without looking for something beyond and above living, I mean living must be your whole occupation.

When I see stories like this (and many more), it makes me so proud that my daughter has decided to go down the path of being a Wildlife Conservationist. Four years university (including a one year placement), not that much money to be had at the end of this but such a passionate career to follow. So much to be done....0

(and the pay? So much more than financial - way beyond, in fact)0 -

I agree with hedonist...I'm sure the rewards go well beyond the financial. What an amazing thing to be a part of.
I would love to work with animals, but while I can tolerate human suffering well enough to help them through it...I just can't tolerate animal suffering for some reason. I applaud the people that can push past it and do such important work. You must be proud

It's something difficult for her too (and me.. can't even watch a lil' zebra being caught by a lion or a seal by a whale on TV!). She has done work experience at a vet and volunteers at the RSPCA (local cat shelter). Talking to people faced with this every day (especially at the vets) helped her a lot to understand that there is a lot more positive coming out of these professions and one learns to focus on them. She's still needs to toughen up though....0 -

I admire people that do this work and am grateful to them.
