A husband is desperately searching for his 21-year-old wife after she vanished during a two-minute drive to Starbucks.
Whitney Heichel left the couple's apartment in Gresham, a town in the US state of Oregon, at 6.45am local time on Tuesday on her way to start her 7am shift as a barista.
But she never showed for work and six hours later her black 1999 Ford Explorer was found with a smashed window in a carpark about 8km from her home.
A petrol station attendant later claimed he had seen the vehicle being driven by a man acting "suspicious and hurried" as Mrs Heichel sat in the passenger's seat.
Her husband Clint Heichel said he first learned of his wife's disappearance when her manager at Starbucks phoned around 8.15am to ask why she hadn't showed for work.
"She got ready – her normal thing – got up and just kissed me goodbye. I woke up and said, 'I'll see you when you get home,'" he told local TV news station KATU.
"I woke up and said, 'Bye I'll see you when you get home.'"
When Mrs Heichel failed to respond to his calls and text messages, he phoned friends and family and checked local hospitals.
No one knew where she was, so he reported her missing to local police.
Friends and family began searching for Mrs Heichel and distributing missing person pamphlet.
Around 1pm friends found her ute in the carpark of a shopping centre, with the front passenger window smashed in and the back seats pulled down.
Police later confirmed her bank card was used at a petrol station about 5km from her home shortly after 9am.
Police said surveillance video showed the vehicle at the gas station but the quality of the footage was poor and detectives were unable to see who was driving the car.
Search efforts continue and a Facebook page has been set up to help find the woman.
"You hope the best and just never give up," Mr Heichel said. "I won't give up until she's found."
