Not all Republicans are anti abortion or against gay marriage....
shocker huh?
wrong.
let's consult the official gop platform.
[and etc]
Yeah it would probably be more accurate to say "not all conservatives are anti-abortion or against gay marriage".
if you are a mainstream, lock step, republican candidate you are to adhere to the platform, or you will get your butt primaried in the next election cycle.

Preserving and Protecting Traditional Marriage (Top)
The institution of marriage is the foundation of civil society. Its success as an institution will determine our success as a nation. It has been proven by both experience and endless social science studies that traditional marriage is best for children. Children raised in intact married families are more likely to attend college, are physically and emotionally healthier, are less likely to use drugs or alcohol, engage in crime, or get pregnant outside of marriage. The success of marriage directly impacts the economic well-being of individuals. Furthermore, the future of marriage affects freedom. The lack of family formation not only leads to more government costs, but also to more government control over the lives of its citizens in all aspects. We recognize and honor the courageous efforts of those who bear the many burdens of parenting alone, even as we believe that marriage, the union of one man and one woman must be upheld as the national standard, a goal to stand for, encourage, and promote through laws governing marriage. We embrace the principle that all Americans should be treated with respect and dignity.
THE SANCTITY AND DIGNITY OF HUMAN LIFE
Faithful to the "self-evident" truths enshrined in the Declaration of Independence, we assert the sanctity of human life and affirm that the unborn child has a fundamental individual right to life which cannot be infringed. We support a human life amendment to the Constitution and endorse legislation to make clear that the Fourteenth Amendment's protections apply to unborn children. We oppose using public revenues to promote or perform abortion or fund organizations which perform or advocate it and will not fund or subsidize health care which includes abortion coverage. We support the appointment of judges who respect traditional family values and the sanctity of innocent human life. We oppose the non-consensual withholding or withdrawal of care or treatment, including food and water, from people with disabilities, including newborns, as well as the elderly and infirm, just as we oppose active and passive euthanasia and assisted suicide.
Republican leadership has led the effort to prohibit the barbaric practice of partial birth abortion, permitted States to extend health care coverage to children before birth. We urge Congress to strengthen the Born Alive Infant Protection Act by exacting appropriate civil and criminal penalties to health care providers who fail to provide treatment and care to an infant who survives and abortion, including early induction delivery where the death of the infant is intended. We call for legislation to ban sex-selective abortions - gender discrimination in its most lethal form - and to protect from abortion unborn children who are capable of feeling pain; and we applaud U.S. House Republicans for leading the effort to protect the lives of pain-capable unborn children in the District of Columbia. We call for a revision of federal law 42 U.S.C. 289.92 to bar the use of body parts from aborted fetuses for research. We support and applaud adult stem cell research to develop lifesaving therapies, and we oppose the killing of embryos for their stem cells. We oppose federal funding of embryonic stem cell research.
We also salute the many states that have passed laws for informed consent, mandatory waiting periods prior to an abortion, and health protective clinic regulation. We seek to protect young girls from exploitation through a parental consent requirement; and we affirm our moral obligation to assist, rather than penalize, women challenged by an unplanned pregnancy. We salute those who provide them with counseling and adoption alternatives and empower them to choose live, and we take comfort in the tremendous increase in adoptions that has followed Republican legislative initiatives.
you didn't really need to post that gimme...
Yes we all know about the platform and you too so fearful of Roe vs Wade being overturned.
Really?
There are many Republicans who are so because of the role of government not because of social
issues. It is what drives them not the idea of pro life or gay marriage. That is reserved
for a portion of Republicans. And it does drive them indeed, it is a crusade for them.
50 years ago neither of those were even issues.
All were hired to do a job as a Republican and sworn in to represent the people who voted them
in and the party. But that does not speak to the intimate moments and core beliefs that they hold.
It does not speak to the voting public who are Republicans and have abortions or are
in gay relationships.
You know it is not that red and blue. It is people and not all fit in the perspective colored box.
That's what I think about this guy. I'm not going to put a moral compass on him
for something he did over a decade ago.
I'll add ...
those cheatin clowns ... when will they learn? :fp:
yeah i did need to post it. i posted it to show that those things are in the republican platform. those are the things they will do if they win the presidency and the other 2 houses of congress. it is right there in black and white. what i don't get is why you fail to recognize it or you downplay it. they are against abortion and they are against gay marriage. they are against gay rights and they are against women's rights.
gay rights IS an issue NOW. it wasn't 50 years ago because gays were hidden safely away in the closet and were shunned by society. it is an issue now because people like me make it an issue, because if i didn't make it an issue, the potential rights for gay people to get married would be swept away in a constitutional amendment making it illegal. abortion was not an issue 50 years ago, but it IS and issue NOW. women have been given the right to choose. it is a right they should have had at birth, but we had to have a supreme court decision to give them the unalienable rights that they have by being born. if the gop wins, that right, the right to choose, will also be stripped away from them. this is reality. this is truth. no matter how you look at it, not matter how you view it, no matter how you twist it, no matter how you misrepresent it, what i have posted is fact. if you think these two issues do not drive the republican party you are wrong and you are completely mistaken.
you are right. these are not red issues or blue issues. it is an american issue, but more importantly it is a HUMAN RIGHTS issue. you can stand on the right side of history or you can stand on the wrong side of history. the republican party, as it is right now, are on the wrong side of history. my grand kids will laugh at the thinking and the positions of that party one day in the same way that we now laugh at how stupid the notion was that a black man was 3/5 of a person...
the man in the OP is a snake. he got his job by saying he is pro life, while pushing someone to have an abortion. you don't get much more hypocritical that that..

All I'm saying is that there's a difference between being conservative and being "A Republican". Just like there's a difference between being liberal and being "A Democrat". ...I can't tell for certain if you understand that I was agreeing with you in my last post...
