WRXP 101.9 announced yesterday they are being sold to CBS so they put WFAN on FM radio. I love this station and can't believe we're losing it again. :( The NY area really needs an Alt Rock station for those of us that don't have satellite radio.

I did back flips when it came back this summer and to lose it again is awful.

You're not kidding. If you like rock music in this area the only station you have is Q104.3 which is all classic rock. Nothing for new music.

Total buzz kill losing this station.

Not sure we will ever get another real rock station. To be fair 101.9 was already showing signs of catering to the ad dollars. I am in the car 45 minutes a day and when I have it on I hear a lot of the same stuff. To your point they might pull something truely new out once in a while, but they cant survive by doing that on a regular basis.

So strange. Couldnt believe the lack of options when I lived near NYC.

Even in Buffalo we have like 6-8 legitimate stations as we are aided by some kick-ass Canadian ones as well.

Wow, that didn't take long. I am very disappointed to hear it. I agree with the other poster's comment about the repetition. Since they went back on, their play list has been pretty limited and the station was never as good as it was before the news format.

I guess it's back to classic rock and Beatles lunch hours again :fp:

105.5, from Jersey. Used to be great but now, not as good. But an alternative to 104.3 And 88.3 is always there for jazz.

The play list was highly repetitive, but at least it was new music. Classic rock gets really old after awhile.

I read a couple of articles online and it looks like the plan was always to sell 101.9 to another company and the alt rock format was just a cheap stop gap until they made the sale since they really didn't pay any on air talent.

    Depressing.

  • It might not be all bad. According to Billboard magazine, the alt rock ratings have been pretty good so there's a chance that another station may pick up the format.

Beavis: All my friends are brown and red? What does that mean?
Butthead: It means that his friends are like turds and that they like suck.
Beavis: Heh heh. Oh yeah. Yeah! Get those spoons out of my face before I shove them up your butt!
    Butthead: Huh huh.
