The 5 biggest lies told by Romney in the debate...

from Rolling Stone.

1. "I don't have a $5 trillion tax cut."

He does.

2. "I will not reduce the taxes paid by high-income Americans."

but...
A4X7_yXCMAErEdT.jpg

3. "We've got 23 million people out of work or [who have] stopped looking for work in this country."

Romney is lying.

The official figure is 12.5 million unemployed. An additional 2.6 million have stopped looking for jobs. To get to the "23 Million," he includes more than 8 million people who work part-time jobs as also being "out of work."

Technically that would also be me. I am only officially a 2/3 employee for the studio I work for because the remaining time I spend doing independent promotions for them which accounts for about 75% of my income. Go figure.

(which by the way is also almost 80% of Walmart's workforce :fp: )

4. Obamacare "puts in place an unelected board that's going to tell people ultimately what kind of treatments they can have."

More Sarah Palin "death panels" bullshit. Totally false.

5. "Pre-existing conditions are covered under my plan."

Another complete lie. And Romeny's own advisor admitted that after the debate.

    Only 5?

It's a shame that Obama didn't come after him like he did this morning at a campaign even in Denver. I don't now what was wrong with him last night.

I almost got the sense he was holding back on purpose. There's a lot of ammo Obama left unfired. I have a feeling things will be different in the subsequent debates.

facts don't matter anymore. As long as you can be condescending and be a blowhard with no substance, aka blatant lies (a la Chris Christie), the public will buy it.

"We’re not going to let our campaign be dictated by fact-checkers"

I mean those pesky facts always get you in trouble, right GOP? Might as well just run a campaign based on empty rhetoric and misleading stats.

it is a shame that we have to take people to task on here when obama should have headed this shit off at the pass last night and called romney on some of this stuff.

    but he didn't.

he let romney lie and lie and it was unchecked.

obama failed progressives everywhere last night.

and in doing so he made his job, and the job of those working to get him re-elected exponentially more difficult...

Uh... where did you get that I didn't watch?

My husband and I both watched. Remember that Romney wants to deport him... so it's kinda something that we care about.

    really?

Because now... we have VERY documented proof that Romney has no trouble lying if it suits his purpose and he does it with the same tone that mortgage broker used on you in 2006 to sell you that house he knew you couldn't afford.

We have 90 minutes of him intentionally distorting his policies, lying about what he thinks, changing his positions on a dime and the whole country is talking about how he "won" a debate without actually telling the truth about anything.

And not a single Republican is willing to address that.

So far all I've had in this thread is "so says Rolling Stone" without any suggestion that everyone else isn't saying the same thing (they are) and telling me that I didn't watch the debate (I did).

Kinda like how Paul Ryan's speech at the RNC was just 30 minutes of him lying and when it hit the news... that's all anyone was talking about.

And funny how donations to the president skyrocketed last night and a few complacent democrats realized that Romney can still win this by making things up... and they're now engaged.

Pretty brilliant if you ask me.

(let's not forget. MANY have underestimated Barack Obama and have paid the political price for it. You don't take out Hillary Clinton and John McCain, arguably two of the most popular and established political figures of the last 50 years, without knowing what you're doing)

Oh. My bad. You said you didn't hear Romney "enumerate" anything. No way to pay attention to the debate and say something so wrong, but... check it out on youtube so you can learn all about Romneys plan....

kidding, of course. I know you're not interested in what a stright, old white dude (paraphrasing your words) has to say, and I don't blame you.

If one candidate says he's gonna deport your boyfriend, then that narrows down your choices, right?

Just like we can all guess who Jim Lehrer is voting for.

Despite the fact that fact checkers--you know, those in charge of the truth (what is that, Romney asks?)--are having a field day this morning, and despite the fact that I am voting for Obama, again, I agree with Gimmiesometruth27. This was a very poor showing by Obama. He was handed blatant lie after blatant lie on a silver platter......I hope there is some strategy to this; if not, Romney's debate victory can easily turn into an election victory..............

If one candidate says he's gonna deport your boyfriend,

Um... Carlo is my husband. NOT my "boyfriend."

We've been together for 20 years. That's longer than any of the marriages of Rush Limbaugh, Newt Gingrich or Larry King.

That's 80 times longer than Kim Kardashian's marriage. That's 7300 times the length of Britney Spear's last marriage.

We've also been legally married in our country of Canada and home state of California.

Show some respect, please. Do you call your mother "that lady my dad's fucking?"

WTF are you talking about? The GOP establishment hated McCain, and Hillary was DOA because of the taint of her husband. Obama was annointed the next head Donkey at the 2004 convention. I think there's some things you should REMEMBER before you try not to forget.

i don't give obama enough credit to think that this was some sort of a rope a dope. nobody is that politically skilled. nobody can be that "deer in headlights" timid on cue and majically snap out of it 15 minutes after the debate... he was flustered and frustrated and it showed. he fucked up the debate. pure and simple. there is no excuse. he just did not show up. he had facts on his side last night. but he did not attack when clearly there was so much obama could have and should have said but didn't.

  • uh... no. John McCain beat out a lot of GOP favorites including Mitt Romney. For a lot of reasons. Even Democrats liked John McCain.

And Hillary Clinton is hugely popular, no matter what the far right will tell you.

mccain was hated by the gop establishment only because he wanted to run a classy campaign. he wanted to be professional about it and stay above the mud slinging. the gop hates reasonable people, and as such, reasonable candidates. palin was annointed the standard bearer of the party on election night and look at her now. she can't even get on fox news anymore... :fp:

The GOP nominated McCain because they knew another true fiscal conservative wouldn't have a chance to win (not that they really thought McCain had a chance - thus, like Dole - sacrificial lamb - I mean really? You think they allowed him to name Palin as his VP candidate b/c they thought he had a chance?).

And Hillary had no chance at winning either b/c despite Obama using Billy boy now - Clinton was also not so popular 4 years ago, as evidenced by the fact that Obama did everything possible to distance himself.

So, yes. They are both LIKED. But, if you think those were monumental victories on Obama's part, you're kidding yourself. He was literally annointed at the 2004 DNC as the next Dem Pres nominee. If you want, I'm sure there's You-tube vids of the same liberal media that is now disappointed in him gushing over him 8 years ago and saying this EXACT thing.
Sorry. The world doesn't work the way you tell it to.

    dude you are wrong!

if obama was annointed in 2004 why did he struggle so much in the 2008 campaign? why did his poll numbers drop after the debates at times? he trailed clinton for a long time. he even trailed biden at one point in the polls. i don't care who you are, beating hillary clinton is no easy task. she would still be in the senate and she would win re-election if she were up again.

if he were annointed there would have been 2 or 3 dems running against him and he would have trounced them. it took time for obama to even get going in the primary campaign.

like romney, obama survived the party campaign. the only reason romney is in there now is because he SURVIVED the primaries. he was not even favored by a majority in his own party.

At the same time, we should acknowledge the lies that Obama spoke of as well.

I understand if Obama is your guy .... but it's strange to call out Romney for lying when Obama is lying as well.

If two baseball teams are both using corked bats and stealing sings and there is blatant evidence against both teams ... would one team's fanbase make fun of the other fanbase for cheating?

Objectively speaking, it wasn't even close on the lies front. And, it's Obama's fault for not calling him out on it.

I think you're being a little hard on the guy. He didn't seem flustered and frustrated to me. He just seemed tired and a little less prepared (and less aggressive). I'm sure I'd be tired and less prepared too if I were busy being President. He did seem like he was being too nice, though, not bringing up the 47%, etc. And I keep hearing other people criticize him for looking down. I watched CNN, which only showed close-ups, but I assumed he was taking notes when he was looking down.

obama shit the bed last night. but i have listened to some of the exchanges again and now that i digest a little of what was said last night, i do not think that obama gave romney any ammo to use in ads. i do not think that obama made any huge gaffes or compromised the positions that he has maintained throughout the campaign. romney went waaaay moderate last night and that is going to alienate some in the gop base and that gave obama some ammo to hammer him on in ads. not to mention the outright lies that romney's own advisors admitted to today, like romney's health care plan will NOT cover pre-existing conditions.

Obama has to hit him when he mentions the food stamps figures.
Do these people want to be on food stamps? Are these the victims? Romney's 47% comments were insulting, degrading, and patronizing; but, that's how some people who were born with 9 sets of silver spoons can be.

Obama has to make it clear that these people had nothing to do with the economic collapse; that these people are the foundation of society; that they are hard-working individuals who were unfortunately at the mercy of a corrupt banking system and an anti-american group of Wall Streeters who put profits ahead of the country.

Let's not forget that Wall St. and the banks, and the hedge funds, mortgage companies, etc, pulled all this shit after our country got its ass kicked on 9/11. Some patriots!

This is what I believe will be the ultimate result.....a bit of the Rope A Dope basically a set up for the finish. Even though debates rarely change minds but this election these debates are more like a chess match rather than checkers. Romney took out Obama's bishop last night but a trap might be in place with that loss. it's not how you start it's how you finish and do remember Foreman ended up on the canvas and was unable to get before the count of ten....just looking up at Ali wondering how did you outsmart like this.

With a tighter race those casual voters just might get concerned enough to get off their toukas and get out and vote.
