Considering Apple has significant strength in many other markets other than portable music players, yeah...
I sincerely appreciate Neil's drive, and his passion behind the product though.

So do I. I happened to see the interview where he reviewed the product. I think I'd rather see him slap his name on it and somehow get Apple involved becasue unfortunately IF this ever gained traction Apple will just smush it.

This is true, but I think serious sound quality isn't a big concern for the majority of iPod purchasers. For some yes, but the general population... most likely not.
Apple isn't concerned about audiophiles.

rip at a higher bit rate...makes a world of difference.
I really need to start making my audio higher quality.
I love the idea behind it, but unfortunately most people could care less.
He is missing part of the point. The big reason why the ipod was so succesful is it had MASS appeal. Everyone wanted something compact and easy to use. Only a small group will gravitate to this.
It will probably be a nice niche device at best which there is probably a market for, but if it is going to rival the ipod its going to have to do more than that imho

While this thing does have a bit of the compact thing going for it, it seriously is still beat by the iPod. The shape of it, and it's bulkiness will make it difficult to be that easy-to-carry, stick in your pocket device.
Again though, I admire Neil's drive and idea behind it.

The way Neil is hyping it make me think that they think they actually have a chance at putting a dent it he iPod market. The only way this company would be a success is if they figured out a way to make great sound quality with tiny file sizes and they sold the technology to Apple.
The storage capacity is too small for a single use device and it requires replaceable flash drives.
The market share they're trying to focus on is very narrow.
It's going to have to produce some brilliant and instantly noticeable sounds in order to get past those hurdles.
