Was at the concert in Windsor...believe me...it was a huge waste of money, highly disappointing concert, very little energy from the band...the amount of complaints I heard on the way out was numerous...played something like 12 or 13 songs (according to a setlist website). I lost a huge amount of respect for Neil tonight. I said to my wife on the way out we paid less for Springsteen tickets and he put on a 100 times better show...for less.

^Agreed....I can honestly say that this is the first show I've been too in a long time where I was checking my watch to see what time it was (as in, when is this going to end)....one song for an encore? It felt like the whole crowd was just waiting for the show to take off, and it never happened...the highlight was the singing of "O Canada" at the beginning. I love Neil to death but is it necessary to have a 15 minute jam with EVERY song?! :fp: After seeing him play RITFW (won't even go there) with PJ last year in T.O. and seeing how epic that moment was, tonight's show kind of tarnished things for me a bit (that and the $85 price tag)...felt kind of bad for all the Michigan peeps that made the trip over....and my sister said it best, the WFCU should change its name to the WCFU, as in the WIndsor Cluster Fuck Union....arrived at the arena at 8:05, never got in to the actual arena until 45 minutes later, after you factor in the the one lane entrance and the 5 mile walk from the parking lot located conveniently on the other side of town....I did see a guy rocking a PJ Molson Canadian shirt on the floor, but other than that, nothing but crickets and contact buzzes (the joints, they were a flowin, and thank God for that, it kept the little ones busy while they tried to figure out exactly wtf they were watching)....very thankful I get to see the Deftones in a few weeks so I can release some of this frustration :D

mmm. Not happy reading this! I have tix for the CT show in December. Was really looking forward to it, especially after how amazing he was last weekend at the Central Park show. He sounded awesome and really kicked some serious ass
Yes, every song was 16 minutes long....but damn...they were great!
Thank you fellow 10 clubber for saving my ass....again!!!

I was thinking of getting Toronto tickets...glad I passed...because I would be selling them. I'm still so pissed about what I paid for what the crowd was given in return. I'd never spend a another dime on Neil for anything...the guy totally mailed it in.

I got there at 7:30 I got in pretty easy...at that time they had many more doors open...that must of closed some doors after I got in. The complaints I heard were plentiful. People were not happy. He really tarnished his reputation after this show. I always had him ahead of Rush as the greatest Canadian rock acts...not even close, saw Rush 2 years ago and they totally kicked ass and they left you wanting more...last night night I was following the triple crown race on my phone...

These reviews are starting to scare me. I'll be at the Toronto show next month and have been pumped for it for a while. This isn't the first time I've heard people voice these concerns, so my excitement is slowly turning to anxiety.

Got tickets to see nickelback a few years back as part of a festival package and they were way better...he just SUCKED...every song 12-13 minutes...and no beer sales after he came on...went to get a beer at 9:15 everything was closed up...

Wow, that's messed up. The little bit of Neil at the Toronto show last year got me all excited to see him, but now I'll definitely go in not expecting much. I'm still going to go and form my own opinion, but I'm kind of wary now.

What did you people expect when you bought tickets? Not a NY aficionado, but it seems like that would be a pretty standard set from him. The one time I seen him was at Farmaid and he had a pretty short slot, but he did just about what the op describes and I was more pissed that he didn't keep playing.

He's not Bruce fucking Springsteen or Rush and he sure as fuck isn't Nickelback. Bruce and Rush have always been about playing great high energy shows. I don't think that's ever been on Neil's agenda. I think the fact that anybody thought Nickelback put on a better show says alot about expectations going in.

I don't know what I was expecting when I purchased my ticket, but whatever it was, those expectations are tempered. If it ends up being great, that's awesome, if not, it's still an experience for which I've been waiting years.

I'm pretty sure you were expecting something you were never going to get with Neil, especially when playing with Crazy Horse. Neil does whatever Neil wants to do. And that show was likely over 2 hours with crazy good jams. I saw him and the horse a few days ago in Central Park and their set was incredible, especially given their just over an hour slot. Perhaps he had an off night for Neil, but I think your expectations were somewhat maligned. I'd take these reviews with a grain of salt.

Can' wait for the Calgary show!

It's always great to hear a differing opinion. Thanks, I'll go in with an open mind and no expectations and form my own judgement. Neil has always been on my must-see list, so I know I won't be missing it, even if I hear more bad reviews.
  • as a guitar fan i'm pumped to hear there will be extended 15min versions of his songs. down by the river would be perfect. cortez etc ? hello!

i just don't see how that can't be a good thing

as far as cutting off beer sales early goes that's what the pregame is all about. i don't go to a show to start drinking, im ready for the show when my ticket tickets gets scanned in

I never said Nickelback was better but they put on a way better show...bottom line NY was a joke last night 13 songs...seriously... and i'm betting most people on this board wouldn't have given NY the time of day if Eddie wasn't so big on NY. I've seen hundreds of concerts he was FUCKIN terrible.

I never said that you thought Nickelback was better. Just saying if you were that let down with the show, it would seem to me that you have never listened to any of his material with Crazy Horse, live or studio.

Neil Young has plenty of fans without EV singing his praises. I doubt anybody has ever listened to Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere or Weld and thought "I sure am glad Eddie Vedder likes this"

It wasn't just the son selection...almost from the moment he stepped on stage it felt like he just was going through the motion and putting in time...

It's shitty if that's the case. Hopefully just an off night then. What's a Neil Young+Crazy Horse show without him convulsing all over the place.

I get that he was performing with Crazy Horse...I get that he is not a nostalgia act as well...but he played nothing off his latest disc Americana...he still could have performed some of his earlier hits that could have put some energy in the place. I've seen plenty of older bands who play plenty of new stuff and throw in the older music as well...13 songs @ 12 minutes a song was just a jam session...

maybe he can't remember lyrics ;)

And hence what you saw: Neil and Crazy Horse!!!! Maybe he phoned it in/off night, but I really feel that you negative experience-ers have never seen Neil before and/or not with Crazy Horse, and/or had Pearl Jam expectations, but hey, even they/Eddie have off nights!

Best advice: don't be discouraged by negative reviews; be open and see it for yourself. Just don't pay $200+ for the ticket! :o

he played nothing off americana!! whew! i'm glad to hear that cause i spun that cd twice and shelved it. i'll probably never listen to it again

maybe his new new cd, psychedelic pill, will make more sense once you listen to it. im sure it will better detail what this tour is really about
  • I don't know what you expected a Neil concert to be like, but he's not about playing 3 minute versions of his songs. He improvises and takes risks. If you want shitty sing alongs and songs all sounding like they do on the album then this is not the concert for you.
