Hi!

Similar to Gremmie.net, is there a place I can get Nirvana demos and quality live recordings, etc?

  • I don't know for sure, but I would imagine not. I know there used to be a place (I forget where exactly) that had a lot of audience recordings of concerts and stuff, but that was about it, and the few I downloaded were practically unlistenable. I think everything that is of decent quality (demos, studio stuff, etc) has been released already, some of those tracks on the box set seemed like bottom of the barrel stuff, so I wouldn't think there's much laying around of better quality than that. I wouldn't be surprised if they had some more live stuff in their back pocket, but I think we've seen the last of original material, be it finished product or demo.

Look at all the shit that happened over that one song (You Know You're Right), the surviving band members and Courtney treated that thing like a golden egg, I would imagine because it was the last piece of really sell-able material, hence the fighting over how to go about releasing it. It's too bad they can't be like Tupac and have a career's worth of material to posthumously release.

I may be wrong about all this though.

    Cheers.

I would imagine there is plenty of soundboard quality gigs out there though, from radio broadcasts, etc. Melbourne 1992 I know is around, for example.

There used to be some places 5 or 6 years ago. And then suddenly, there was no more Nirvana. From what I understand, the band (or or possibly Courtney) went after them. I'm sure there are still some places out there, but I have not found any good sources in quite some time.

I'm guessing there will be an In Utero re-release next year for the 20th ann. Probably will be a live show or DVD/Bluray from that era to accompany it.

  • It is my impression that everything of studio quality that has been released, has been. live shows, I'm not sure. The live at the paramount was just released last year with the anniversary of nevermind, the live show that came with the reissue of Bleach, so I'm sure they have many more live recordings that are out there.

That's a pretty good site used it several times, to the OP you should try to find the Outcesticide Boxset it's 6 discs although they must have expanded it at some point because I have 8 discs in my library. It's filled with demos and live stuff definitely a must have as a nirvana fan.
